For my 16th Birthday, I was shipped off to sea to learn some discipline sailing as one of 48 crew members to race the last leg of the TALL SHIPS RACE from Belgium to Denmark on the Prince William.

We did not win the race, in fact I'm sure we sailed backwards at one point.

Little did my parents know, I would find way more than than just some discipline, I discovered a love for the ocean and found myself helping others who were struggling a lot more than I was. This taught me about respect, compassion and self worth.

I loved it so much, I returned to the ocean on another 2 other voyages to different parts of the world as voluntary deck hand crew on the Prince William and her sister ship, the Stavros S Niarchos.

So when you ask me, do I just like pirates? Mmm yes..but there's way more to it than just dressing up ⚓⚓
