Speke Square is a a versatile pattern that can be knit in any yarn. I am currently making a glamorous evening shawl using my hand dyed sock weight merino with gold stellina sparkles in colourway "black cherry". The squares are blocking at 20cm². To make a triangular shawl I would need to make 10 fulll squares and 3 half squares, but I am going to make a long rectangular shawl with 12 squares: 2 x 6.

The pattern is inspired by the white Bedspread and is available to purchase in my Ravelry shop - link in bio.

So excited - it's time to get the dye pans out and start preparing for on 25th-26th April and Yarnies at the Flaxmill the following Saturday 2nd May! 🥳 I keep seeing stunning projects using mohair lately such as the Westknits Glowalong Mohair Mobile Shawl and the Dragonfly Sweater by Elenor Mortensen. I have been inspired to dye some floof, so I am currently dyeing some Suri Alpaca Lace. It can be knit on its own as a lace to aran weight yarn depending on needle size used - it will make a tight, dense laceweight or a light and airy aran weight on bigger needles. It can also be held double with a 4ply or sock weight yarn to make an aran or worsted weight yarn - a popular combination for sweaters like the Lovenote sweater. I also mopped up some dye that had not quite exhausted with an odd skein of sock yarn - waste not, want not!

New knitting pattern being released on Ravelry tomorrow! I have designed this block, inspired by The White Bedspread and typed up the pattern, just need to take daylight photos tomorrow. This sample is knitted in aran weight yarn, but as the pattern is for a modular motif, it can be made in any weight of yarn from laceweight to superchunky (the yarn band will tell you what needle size to use) and the squares can be joined to make blankets, cushions, jumpers, scarves, shawls, bags...whatever you fancy!

Devastated that I won't be having a stand at my favourite annual yarn show this year, but I have a family event to attend in Aberdeen over that weekend, followed by a road trip taking in Inverness, Skye, Glasgow and Stoke on Trent! I will be back next year though (family events calendar permitting!)

More market research! Would you be interested in joining a monthly yarn subscription? I was thinking parrot themed - lots of bright, variegated and speckled colour inspiration in the parrot family! It would be a surprise each month - the photos are to give an idea of colourways. I was thinking of offering this just on my favourite high twist 85% merino, 15% nylon sock yarn to start with. It would be £22 per month (free p&p within UK, overseas I would have to do some research!) Would you be interested?
