Last year, Ignition supported Toyota Motor Europe in launching its largest ever van – the Proace Max.

The journey began with confidential prototype test drives and culminated in a pan-European training event.

At Ignition, we believe in putting our values into practice, so we’re proud to unveil our very own Proace Max event van, with bespoke graphics designed entirely by our very talented in-house team!

Its first outing? This month, supporting the confidential test drives of a true Toyota icon, the new zero-emission Hilux BEV.

B Corp Certification™ doesn’t just measure what we produce; it measures how we operate and who benefits from our work. For us, the three big areas it focuses on – people, planet, and projects – are all connected.

Ignition is an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). More than just a token label, it’s fundamental to how the business is run. Everyone here has a stake in its long-term success, a voice in how it operates, and a reason to care deeply about the work we do. When you work with us, you’re dealing with people who are invested not only in delivering great outcomes for you, but also in protecting and enhancing the business that is run for the benefit of all employees. That creates a sense of ownership that you can feel in how we approach every project.

For the planet, our responsibilities start internally. If you work in automotive, you’ll know the industry is in the middle of its biggest transformation in decades: electrification, new mobility models, connected technologies, ambitious sustainability targets, and shifting customer expectations.

Being a Certified B Corporation™ doesn’t mean we suddenly change the type of work we do for automotive and mobility brands. But it does mean we’ve put our governance, operations, and commitments through a level of independent scrutiny that strengthens how we deliver in a sector under pressure to evolve and adapt.

Automotive projects often span multiple markets, languages, and stakeholder groups. That complexity can create challenges in decision-making and delivery. B Corp Certification confirms that we have governance structures that prioritise transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making, even when deadlines are tight or requirements shift. This is built into how we scope work, communicate with stakeholders, manage delivery, and measure success.

Sustainability is another area where the alignment is clear. The sector is being asked to move faster than ever towards greener supply chains, low or zero-carbon operations, and new business models. We hold ourselves to the same standard, looking at the environmental implications of our own work, from reducing our operational footprint through to designing programmes that help our client partners build sustainability into their own practices.

As part of the B-Corp certification process, we completed the B Impact Assessment. Once submitted and reviewed, we received our verified score: 106.6.

To put that into perspective:

• 80 is the minimum to qualify
• Most companies score between 50 and 60 on their first attempt
• Anything over 100 indicates strong alignment with B Corp values

We’re proud of our score, but this wasn’t something we stumbled into.

What is the B Impact Score?

It’s a comprehensive measure of how a business operates: how employees are treated, how supply chains are managed, what environmental footprint is left, how decisions are made, and who ultimately benefits.

The score is broken down into five key categories:

• Governance
• Workers
• Community
• Environment
• Customers

Each category digs deep, and you can’t ‘talk your way through it.’ You must back up your answers with tangible evidence, or you simply don’t score.

We’re pleased to have scored well in areas that reflect what matters to us:

• How we support our team
• How we govern and run the business
• How we deliver for clients
• The partners we choose to work with
• How we’re reducing our environmental impact

Of course, there were gaps, but they were relatively small. We’ve already identified areas for improvement and taken action.

Is 106.6 a ‘good’ score?

Undoubtedly it is, but we also see it as a benchmark to build on. It’s well above the global B Corp average and a strong reflection of how we’ve been operating for years. That said, we’re committed to continually improving.

We recently shared the news that Ignition has become B Corp certified – here’s a bit more about what the journey involved.

We first began exploring B Corp certification to better understand whether it might be a good fit for our aspirations as a business. The B Corp logo had become increasingly visible on products, in company bios, and social posts and communications, and that prompted us to take a closer look. We wanted to assess whether we were eligible and, more importantly, whether the process aligned with our values.

After conducting internal research and gaining a clear understanding of what B Corp Certification entails – particularly for an employee-owned business – we committed to the process. We were keen to understand our impact beyond financial and operational performance alone.

What followed was a process that spanned several months, challenged many of our assumptions, and helped crystallise the kind of company we aspire to be.

So, what did we learn?

1. The process is thorough… and rightly so!

The B Impact Assessment leaves no stone unturned. It interrogates how we treat people, how we govern the business, who we work with, the impact we have on the environment and community, and then requires documented proof of it all.

2. We formalised what had been informal

We discovered that while many of our practices were already strong, some weren’t as documented or measured as we thought. The process gave us a valuable opportunity to review and refine how we do things and how we could do them better.

3. It brought the whole team together

Achieving certification was a collective effort. It opened up meaningful conversations around our values and purpose and led to positive changes being embedded across the business.

4. It clarified what matters most

Becoming certified didn’t transform us into a more ethical business, but it did provide a framework to evaluate how our actions align with our intentions. It helped us articulate what’s most important in how we work with clients, our team, and the broader community.

5. It’s a continual journey

In three years, we’ll re-certify, and we’re already planning how we’ll improve. We’ve set internal goals, enhanced reporting practices, and updated some of our operational processes in response to the assessment.

If you’re considering B Corp certification, we highly recommend it, but be prepared to put in the hard yards! It challenges you in the right ways, encourages meaningful conversations, and provides clarity on what your business truly stands for.

The furthest north Ignition has ever been!

Last week, we swapped office desks for ice tracks as we travelled to Ivalo, Finland – north of the Arctic Circle – for a snow testing event with one of our long-standing client partners.

With -18°C temperatures, miles of snow and ice tracks, and even a show from the Northern Lights, it was an unforgettable first for us in Finland. A huge thank you to our client and partners for making it happen!

And in perfect timing, Finland has just been named the world's happiest country for the 8th year in a row – fitting, given the smiles on our faces (even in sub-zero conditions)! As we mark the International Day of Happiness, we can see why Finland keeps leading the way – breathtaking landscapes, incredible hospitality, and of course, world-class testing facilities like Mellatracks Proving Ground, where we had over 80km of snow and ice tracks to play with.

A first, but certainly not the last. We’re already looking forward to our next adventure!
