Have you ever changed your presser foot pressure?

That’s what this dial on your sewing machine does. Not all machines have this so don’t worry if yours doesn’t but it is handy when working with different weight fabrics!

On the Janome 230dc for regular sewing it should be set on 6, for super stretchy fabrics on 1, for lightweight fabrics on 3 and for embroidery, appliqué etc on 3 but always check your machines manual for information about your specific model.

I honestly wish I had known about this foot earlier on in my sewing journey it would have saved me so much hassle!

Does your sewing machine come with this foot? Most modern Janome sewing machines have this as the main presser foot and it’s so handy for sewing bulky seams!

Have you ever seen this foot before?

It’s for attaching buttons and it makes the process of sewing them on so much quicker, easier and less painful in my opinion!

Have you got this foot? Would you give it a try?

Hands up on the air if you’ve had one of these knocking around for ever and never known what it was?

Sometimes it is a faff to have to unthread your machine when your bobbin runs out but now you know you don’t have to!

Did you know what this bit of plastic for was?

Did you know your sewing machine has soo many different stretch stitches? I particularly like this one! It creates a really nice clean finish on stretch fabrics and is a great alternative to a zig zag!

Have you tried this stitch before?

Do you have this nifty little foot for your sewing machine?

Blind hems are a really nice way to finish hems on your garments you see them a lot on trousers and sometimes skirts or dresses.

The trickiest part about a blind hem my students find is remembering which way to fold the fabric back, once you’ve mastered this they are a dream!

If you finding you are getting really big stitches on the right side of your garment, try lessening the width of your stitch so it’s only catching a teeny bit of the fold of the fabric. You can do this by changing your needle position over to the right hand side more.

Have you tried doing blind hems before?

Did you know you can do bar tacks on your domestic sewing machine even if you don’t have a bar tack stitch setting?

It’s done by manipulating your zig zag stitch length and stitch width!

Bar tacks are used to reinforce high wear areas of garments just look at a pair of jeans and you’ll see several bar tacks in different places like the pockets and zip!

Let me know in the comments if you knew you could do this.

Did you know you can do a roll hem on your overlocker? It looks different to what you may know as a roll hem on your sewing machine.

It can be used on lots of different ways, my faves are on dance skirt hems, or to hem jersey stretch fabrics with a lettuce hem!

On the Janome air threader it’s so easy to set up, literally jsut a couple of settings to change and you are away and the best part is you don’t need to disengage the blade which you do have to do on some other makes and models of overlocker.

Have you seen this type of hem before?
