Hello!
It’s been a while since I was present on these little squares

Having a break has been a great time for me to think about the direction of MWC and what the future holds
I have lots of ideas and can’t wait to get going properly again

I’m not back for good just yet, but as I get back to sewing I’ll be posting more about what I’m up to and more of my repair, repurpose, relove

✨ Baby ✨

I’ve been somewhat absent from these squares since the beginning of the year and I suppose it’s time I share the reason why!

I’ve spent the last 6 months growing a little person ❤️ it’s been the hardest pregnancy on my body with severe fatigue and pain keeping me away from my sewing room for months at a time

With baby due to arrive late December I’m into the home stretch of the third trimester and, with the help of the girls going off to preschool, I’m finally making it back into my sewing room more regularly

So I’m hoping between now and baby’s arrival you’ll be seeing a bit more of me and my makes as I spend sometime behind the machine ☺️

(This baby grow is the first made by me for our little arrival!)

Repurpose

My first sew back was making my younger daughter this beautiful little summer dress (pictured)

The fabric is a stunning, delicate print gifted to me by my mum in the form of a vintage Laura Ashley skirt she had once bought but never really fitted into

I repurposed it into this dress, which is fastened with 3 (also repurposed) buttons up the back and a sewn in tie sash. The fabric was almost exactly the right size for a 18-24 dress but I’ve kept the scraps and zip for future projects so there’s no waste!

I’m delighted with how it turned out, as was my mum who instantly recognised it when V wore it when we met up recently

It’s driven me to search some other old clothes I’ve been holding on to and so far have made another 2 repurposed dresses

It’s Good To Be Back!

I’ve been absent from the grid for some time now, after moving house I needed to take some time off for personal and health reasons. I expected it to be a few weeks but 3 months later and I’m only just finding my way back in

After not being able to sew for a while I found it difficult to go back into my work room and pick up where I left off but I got over that hurdle with my love of repurposing, something which I’m keen to share more of here and work into my little business

I’ll be back with more updates on My Wild Castle, this time I’m back for good! ☺️

Back To Work

I’ve been fairly silent for the past month, and I’m sorry about that

After the post on my birthday I ended up testing positive for covid and was very ill with it

We then moved house just over a week ago, and I’ve started new medication which has some unpleasant side affects, so it’s been a fairly full on 4 weeks!

The wonderful thing is that in the new house we have a spare room which has now become my work room when we don’t have guests, so I have a dedicated space to work

As of yesterday the desk and storage is set up and ready to go so I’m ready to settle back down and get those orders finished! I’m so excited!

It’s My Birthday!

It’s the Ides of March, which also means I’m another year older!

I’ll try to take the day off (work always seems to lure me in somehow) but I’ll enjoy time with my family as we head out to the aquarium this morning 🐟🐠

In order to celebrate I’m offering 15% off orders all day, pop me a message to order 🎂

Hands At Work

Day 9

I love owning my own business, it’s empowering, it’s something I love, it helps support my family, improves my mental health, and is something I adore doing

But, I have a job waaaaay more important than being a small business owner is my job as a mum

Being Mummy everyday is the biggest challenge I’ve faced. It’s full of tears, laughter, frustration and joy, and I wouldn’t change it for the world

I started sewing clothes in order to make things for my older daughter who didn’t fit highstreet sizes, my girls help choose new prints and inspire new customs - I started My Wild Castle for them as much as myself and they’re one of the biggest reasons I keep going ❤️

✨ Believing In Myself ✨

I’m still behind so here’s day 8 - the best decision I’ve made so far? Believing in myself

I wanted to try my hand at making clothes years before I actually did, from my early teens, but every time I thought about it talked myself down and convinced myself I wouldn’t be good enough

Fast forward almost 15 years, I have a toddler who is outgrowing high street brands, I’ve immersed myself in the small shop world as a customer and I still don’t have the confidence to give it a go myself

But, the most wonderful lady I’ve met through insta tells me I can do it, she believes in me ( I couldn’t have done this without you!), my daughter tells me she loves me and that she loves the first, rather questionable items I make her, and my husband tells encourages me to keep going

I sew, I learn, I fall in love and I finally start to believe in myself, and in a moment of self-belief, madness and confidence my wonderful little business is born

Believing in myself isn’t a natural or easy thing for me (or many others) to do, but look at what we can achieve when we do!

My B (in the photo) is one of the main reasons I even tried to make clothes, and here she is wearing a sneak peek of a print arriving for summer

My Favourite…

I’ve been pretty unwell over the weekend and fell behind with so here’s my belated day 7

I have a lot of favourites within my little business, my favourite print, favourite flatlay prop, favourite sewing tool (yep, I’m that cool)

But I thought I’d share with you my favourite thing to make at the moment, rompers

I adore making rompers, there’s something about them that makes them a joy to make, so satisfying to complete and stunning once worn, can’t beat that, right?

This recent make of mine is also in one of my favourite prints, the Interstellar colourway of my space dinos print - I can’t wait to ship this order out and see it being worn, it’s going to look incredible!

ID: A romper made of a space dinosaur print with green dinos, rust planets and a navy space background, all with a botanical flare. It has fluffy, Sherpa fabric in the top left and, on the right, blocks that spell out space and a walnut botanical star
