Today we launch the second edition of the Fashion Transparency Index. This year we have reviewed and ranked 100 of the biggest global fashion brands and retailers, according to how much information they disclose about their suppliers, supply chain policies and practices, and social and environmental impact.
We assessed them across five key areas: Policy & Commitments, Governance, Traceability, Supplier Assessments & Remediation and Spotlight Issues β including living wages, collective bargaining, business model innovation and how brands are working to reduce consumption of resources.
The average score for all fashion brands is 49 out of 250, less than 20% of the total possible points while none of the companies on the list have scored above 50% β proving that there is still a long way to go towards transparency.
We hope the findings of the Fashion Transparency Index encourage more consumers to ask brands pushing for more disclosure from brands. We hope the Index influences brands and retailers to start disclosing more information about their suppliers, practices and impacts. We hope it facilitates the good work already being done by NGOs and unions. We hope this encourages governments to better implement and enforce existing laws that are meant to protect workers and the environment everywhere. And finally, we hope that it demonstrates to policymakers and regulators the urgent need for mandatory due diligence and reporting.
Read the report to discover the key findings, full results and deeper analysis. Plus, find out what you can do with this information to push for greater transparency from the brands and retailers.
