It’s amazing how the same basic stitches in the hands of ten different people can look so unique. These are some of the results of two days experimenting with thread weight and unconventional arrangements of stitches on (for the most part) a butter-soft wool fabric in our workshop with

Can’t believe there’s only just over a week to go before this years Festival of Quilts.

We’ll be sharing a stand with our sister company as usual, as well as helping organise The Creative Textiles Studio ( ).

Throughout the show we’ll be demonstrating printing on fabric and paper using thermal screens. We’ll also have lots of luscious hand-dyed threads and fabric for sale.

A selection of pieces in an amazing array of colours from our students on Claire Benn’s () Out of this Earth workshop this week.

All of these are beginnings, waiting to be pondered over, have other processes added - more print, another layer of colour, stitch or deconstruction and reconstruction - before being declared finished. Or they might simply be a sample of process, a reminder of a week spent learning new techniques, a record of an idea awaiting its proper time.

Regardless of what they do next with their pieces, Sarah, Nicole, Nicky, Annie, Chris, Vicky, Michelle, Anne and Ann worked so hard this week, exploring combinations of techniques, layering, considering composition and thoroughly enjoying the process.

It was a pleasure to have you all in the studio - hope we’ll see you again soon…
