Big changes include a database of popular shoe brands and who owns them aka a "Billionaire Boycott List."

We've also added a searchable Slow Fashion Footwear Directly to help you find alternatives.

Did you know 'Ugg' is not just a brand, but a type of classic Australian boot?

The US conglomerate Decker Brands (UGG's parent company) has monopolised the style by trademarking the names 'Ugg' and 'Ug' in most countries. This means genuine Australian 'Ugg makers can't sell ugg branded boots outside Australia, while UGG's mostly Chinese made boots are freely exported globally.

Right now there is a small biz owner, Eddie Oygur of , being crushed by Deckers lawyers for selling twelve pairs of Australian made Uggs in the US. Four of which were to a private investigator hired by Decker.

Traditionally made boots have a quality leather upper, and a sole attached with needle and thread. This makes them long lasting and repairable.

Blundstone may still be “family-owned” but they have lost these traditional qualities that earned them their reputation.

Jim Green is a family-owned bookmaker that maintains a focus on traditional craftsmanship. Its boots are assembled in-house with locally sourced materials, full grain leather, and resoleable construction.

The 100 year old Chuck Taylor All Star design is a timeless classic.

But it’s hard to love when the conditions it’s made in are ugly.

Nike Inc., which owns Converse, owes (already underpaid) factory workers millions in unpaid wages and severance.

Yet at the same time they have the money to pay tens of millions in dividends to billionaire owners and to their executives. They also have billions to blow on buying their own stock.

Nick Savaidis recognised this twisted system in the 2000s and created as an alternative. It’s a small, social enterprise that offers Chuck styled high and low tops made under Fairtrade conditions, from cotton growing to sewing.
