Baduy Oil Continued
Baduy Oil is a traditional wood conditioning oil originating from the Baduy region of West Java, Indonesia.
The Baduy people are an Indigenous Sundanese community known for maintaining traditional ways of living, craftsmanship and land stewardship. Many communities still build by hand, work with natural materials and rely on knowledge passed between generations rather than industrial production methods.
This oil comes from that tradition.
Rather than using synthetic sealants or modern chemical finishes, traditional Baduy wood care relies on slow-prepared natural oils, roasted botanicals and forest ingredients used to feed, protect and darken timber over time.
The exact recipes vary between families and villages. There is no single āofficialā Baduy Oil. Like many traditional oils across Indonesia, methods differ depending on local ingredients, climate and intended use.
Our Baduy Oil is made using roasted candlenut, coconut, linseed, lemongrass and forest botanicals prepared using traditional Sundanese methods in West Java.
The DARK version is slowly prepared using roasted oils and forest roots, creating a richer finish designed to deepen grain and add warmth to hardwoods.
The NATURAL version gives a lighter and more natural appearance while still nourishing and protecting the timber.
Unlike modern glossy finishes, Baduy Oil is designed to soak into the wood rather than sit heavily on the surface. The finish develops gradually through handling, use and repeated application.
