ZOMBIE STUDIO INVASION!
Much of my time involves working solo on projects, whether that is filming, editing, designing graphics or writing scripts. So it is a real pleasure to have an opportunity to work with a team from time to time. Last week I was working with Screen Yorkshire and the Carriageworks Theatre teams in Leeds, to produce an amazing hands-on adventure through the entire fimmaking process for children 8+
It was a chance for me to test out an idea I had had for several years now, an interactive and fun learning experience in which the participants (in this case children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old) played the roles of cast and crew of a television studio broadcast trying to cope during a zombie apocalypse.
As zombies storm the studio, they have to produce a report informing the public of this catastrophic event. The children were involved in all stages of the production, from setting the scene by creating mood boards, presenting the news, interviewing scientists and the public, working with green screen and graphics, to editing and adding visual effects and titles to the final production.
We had nearly 200 participants pass through and they all took part in every stage of the process, so most days I was working with a group of fully made up zombie children during the post production, editing part of the workshop. They all had great fun and produced their own, unique Zombie Warning bulletins.
For me, it was lovely to be working in such an energised environment, great to be part of the team and immensely satisfying to see the fantastic work that the kids produced.
