How many hands have worked on your Le Tricoteur guernsey?

Whilst the declaration label attached to the guernseys shows all the signatures of those involved in hand knitting & finishing the guernsey, it doesn’t actually tell the full story…

Behind the scenes there are many more hands contributing to the craft of traditional guernsey making.

It starts with our technician, who sets up, runs and continuously maintains the vintage machines, ensuring each piece that comes off is perfectly knitted and sized.

Then comes our driver, delivering sacks of the guernsey pieces to our hand knitters in their homes all around the island each week.

Our knitters then skillfully craft the shoulder seams and necks before the guernsey heads back to the team in the factory who link the pieces together; and then the ends of yarn from each panel are mended into the seams by hand.

Our seamstress Carla is responsible for sewing all our labels into every single garment before it goes to another pair of hands to be quality controlled - meticulously checked over for any faults or flaws (or random pieces of straw!)

Before it can be placed on the shelf, every guernsey is steam pressed, folded and a shoulder tag attached.

Our ecomm and sales teams are the final hands to package up your guernsey before it’s either shipped off or purchased in the shop.

We are proudly protective of our heritage craft and our traditional methods of manufacture.

Many hands make a Le Tricoteur guernsey and it’s the level of skill and years of expertise in every pair that sets us apart from the rest 💙

Every week Jess delivers a sack of guernseys to each of our hand knitters but before that, she has to spin off exactly the right amount of yarn in the right colour. 2 “ends” are spun off together inside each cone.

We reuse all our cones (of course!) and thought you’d be interested to see the methodical process and a sneak peek at our next batch of OAK being made for a charity launch in about a month ❤️🧡💛💚💙🩵💜

We made these a few years ago and they were such a hit, but they take a while as we slowly accumulate the ends of yarn that get combined into this phenomenal melange

They’ve been best-sellers within our core collection for several years now and you all love them in pretty much any colour-way we knit them, but did you know how the signature cropped style first came about?

A design originally adapted as a slouchy oversized for the Japanese market. We then spent some time tailoring the dimensions in-house so that we could take our functional workwear guernsey (unisex in its design but originally knitted for men), and broaden its appeal to create a fashion fit with female customers in mind.

The result was an original and unique one-size silhouette, that still features all the elements of a traditional fisherman’s guernsey, but more flattering overall.

We’re expanding the range this Autumn with some new colours and because you asked we’re also experimenting with a larger style for men so keep a look out for the launches coming soon

We’re often asked to provide costumes for film and theatre, and ‘The Islander’ project by jules - an adaptation of the famous ‘The Book of Ebenezer Le Page’ - was an opportunity that we were very happy to be part of.

Set in the 1960’s, the short film follows elderly Guernseyman Ebenezer as he reflects on his long life on the Island. After his greenhouse is unexpectedly smashed, he forms an unlikely friendship with a local artist and the memories that flood back force him to rethink his past.

Adapted and produced by Jules Upson & co-directed by Benjamin Lewis with a cast of local actors and crew, it was filmed during the summer of 2025.

The September screening at PRCPA is already a sold out success with the potential for an additional screening at a later date (we will share as its TBC)

You can also look out for the Islander at the Guernsey Film Festival in October.

Cor La Eh! Fancy a coffee?

Who would have predicted that the week we launched our Cor La Eh campaign, a brand new coffee van bearing the same name would also open its doors? (or hatch, as the case may be 😉)

corlacoffee was set up by Elliot who quit his desk job to bring the perfect roast to islanders and with his eager team of pals, they got his van up & running to which we are truly grateful because their coffee is magnificent 💪🏽

So of course, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get together for an early morning shoot at Cor La’s pitch in Vazon. The service was non-stop as regulars and visitors pulled in, had a chat and just by chance a few furry friends popped by with their Le Tricoteur dog coats also making a guest appearance 💙

Honestly, we couldn’t have wished for a more perfect crew to wear the Cor La Eh! guernsey. Their friendship, sense of humour and passion for what they do and their island home embodies all that this project represents.

So thank you Elliot, Megan & Clem for the coffee and a really fun morning & Cheers to Luke Meller for photographing his mates and If you’re Guernsey-based and you spot the van at Vazon or around and about the events circuit this summer, definitely stop for a coffee and a chat ☕ you won’t regret it ☺️

If you’re in London August 6-9th why not pop into Labour and Wait where our good friend Claire Gaudion of Claire Gaudion is running a workshop demonstration of her traditional guernsey willow baskets.

These exceptional weaving skills were passed down by her Father Max, and we are very proud to support this great friendship and sharing of local, cultural traditions to a wider audience, beyond our beautiful island.

I made a ponier a cous with both of them a few years back and they were incredibly kind and patient with all of us novices! I highly recommend going to see Claire and visiting the latest L&W store in Covent Garden. A grand day out!
