Postcards from the Willow Workshop.

Max Gaudion is a master willow basket maker, crafting traditional fishing baskets that are still used by local fishermen and foragers today.

Unique to Guernsey, 'the poniers à cous' are used for gathering ormers and other shellfish, while the 'courges' are traditionally used to store sand eel bait.

One of the oldest custodians of this Island craft, Max learnt the art of willow basket making from his Uncle Wilfred and has since passed those skills on to his daughter Claire, who now hand weaves baskets alongside her father.

Postcards from The Imperial.

Paul Le Sauvage can be found at our local West Coast pub, The Imperial, where he organises and runs the weekly meatdraw on Friday and Saturday nights.

A decades-old Guernsey tradition, the meatdraw is a raffle-style event held in pubs and community clubs where winners have the chance to win locally sourced meats including BBQ packs, whole roasting joints, fresh crab and lobster, and even all the ingredients needed for Bean Jar, Guernsey's famous slow-cooked pork and bean cassoulet.

Who’s that smart looking bunch? It’s us, the Le Tricoteur team in all our finery on Saturday morning.

There are very few occasions that call for us to close the shop, but we couldn’t say no to an invite to attend His Majesty the King’s official birthday celebrations at the invite of His Excellency The Lieutenant-Governor this weekend.

New frocks were bought and we raised a glass in the sunshine to celebrate the amazing local people who had been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.

It was wonderful to have a sneak peek around the beautiful gardens of Government House, including the kitchen & cutting gardens. For many of us it was the first time to Government house and it was a proper treat ❤️

Yesterday we had a special meet up of our knitting team 🧶

These talented ladies hand knit part of our premium woollen guernseys. They receive a delivery of knitted pieces each week and hand-knit the shoulder seams and necks of each one. They are truly masters of their craft.

Some of them have been knitting for us for over 40 years but as they all work from home some had never met! It was a very lively and chatty room talking all things knitting and sharing ideas and techniques. Each person’s knitting is a little like handwriting - it has its own personality!

Our knitting team is at the heart of our story as a knitwear business. We are the only guernsey producer to still use hand knitters in our production and it’s a tradition that we’re passionate about keeping alive.

Each knitter signs their name on every declaration tag attached to our garments so you can read exactly who has made your guernsey.

Behind-the-scenes of Cor La Eh!

Our newest guernsey knitted in traditional navy with Aran lettering on the front and our established date in red on the reverse. Part of our Rocquaine Collection, this design is produced in small batches, featuring special colours and details, all knitted in a slightly shorter style for a contemporary fashion fit.

If you're from Guernsey, we're sure you'll recognise most (if not all) of the local faces who kindly joined us for this very special side project.

There's plenty more to come next week. Keep your eyes peeled for more 🇬🇬

Postcards from Surf & Turf.

Arguably the most well-known butcher and fishmonger on the Island, the incredible Surf & Turf located at the Castle Emplacement in St Peter Port is owned by Jason Hamon.

The man never (and I mean never!) stops smiling.

20 minutes with him and a sneak peek into the tanks out the back was a great way to learn all about local seafood, and we were lucky enough to trial his new “dirty” burger recipe. Their own smoked rashers cooked on top were banging!

Jason is the warmest and most knowledgeable chap you could hope to meet.

Postcards from The Soil Farm.

Entrepreneur and regenerative farmer Sasha Marsh is on a mission to drive change in how we purchase and consume our food on the Island.

Sasha runs a sustainable food production operation that, through its low-impact approach to soil enrichment and use of regenerative practices, supplies Islanders with fresh, organic veg.

Alongside growing at the Soil Farm, Sasha also runs a community-led initiative which supports other local farmers, fishers and producers by offering them a space in which to sell their produce as well as providing islanders with a hub to purchase delicious local produce.

Postcards from Le Hechet Farm.

Rachel, Katherine and Liz have farming in their blood. Third generation custodians of Le Hechet Farm, Katherine and her husband manage the same farm and dairy herd that once belonged to their father and grandfather and alongside Rachel they make around 200 litres of ice cream each week.

The sisters are can be found in the summer months attending the Island’s shows and events selling Le Hechet farm ice cream which was given the seal of approval from the King during his royal visit.

Congratulations again Helen 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Your immaculate styling of one of our guernseys drew huge admiration from followers around the world.

You looked absolutely stunning and we couldn’t be more delighted to see a humble navy guernsey in such a grand setting.

It really was a symbolic & fitting choice and we applaud you 💙💙

No better item of clothing to wear when receiving your MBE than... a Guernsey!

Guernsey's head of culture & heritage services, Helen Glencross, spoke about receiving her honour and how she had to keep it secret from her family 👉 https://bbc.in/4dZF4nS
