One thing I’ve come to appreciate through storytelling is that creating something for the people you love becomes its own kind of memory.

Not perfection.
Not performance.
Just presence.

People get comfortable with one version of you.

The leader.
The professional.
The public figure.

Structured. Predictable. Safe.

But somewhere along the way, I learned something different…

Professionalism does not require shrinking yourself.

Leadership can dance.
Leadership can create.
Leadership can cross oceans.
Leadership can sound like drums, blues, podcasts, and possibility.

And sometimes the moments that challenge you most… also push you to rediscover yourself.

So I chose to create.

Six songs produced in Ghana. 🇬🇭
Two recorded there in the middle of the energy, rhythm, and movement that helped shape them.

This wasn’t about escape.
It was about expansion.

Not abandoning responsibility…
but reconnecting with creativity.

Some songs become part of your emotional memory.

For me, “Dear Mama” was one of those songs.

I didn’t grow up with a close mother-daughter relationship, so hearing Tupac Shakur speak openly about pain, disappointment, struggle, love, and appreciation all at the same time always stayed with me. The honesty in that song resonated deeply.

This reel is simply my personal reflection on why the song meant so much to me, followed by my own heartfelt acapella moment in honor of Mother’s Day. You are appreciated!

To those carrying complicated feelings today — whether love, grief, distance, gratitude, healing, or all of it at once — this one is for you.

Late driver.
Missed appointment.
Lights out.
Waited in heat for an hour.
Left. Found another clinic with a generator.
Paid 730 cedis.
Waited again.
Got stood up.
Lights out AGAIN while eating.
Walked. Waited. No cars.
Lights On.

…so I took a moto home.

Lights out one more AGAIN.
Little sleep.

And in a few hours?
I’m on a 11-hour flight across the Atlantic.

No reset. No break.
Just movement.

then they
came back on…and we
finished the song! 🎶
