Την 1η θέση με τις παραδοσιακές μας φορεσιές έλαβε η ομάδα των νέων της εκκλησίας St. John the Theologian Cathedral, Tenafly NJ στον διαγωνισμό του MDF στη Φιλαδέλφεια στην κατηγορία "Φορεσιάς". Είμαστε ιδιαίτερα υπερήφανοι και χαρούμενοι για αυτο το βραβείο!!

Συγχαρητήρια στην ομάδα και στους χορευτές για την εκπληκτική τους εμφάνιση 👏

Ευχαριστούμε θερμά την Sofia Chouli που πήρε μέρος με την Φορεσιά της Αμαλίας μας και κέρδισε το 1ο Βραβείο του καλύτερου κοστουμιού στο National Costume Party Insead με συμμετέχοντες και κοστούμια από όλο τον κόσμο!
Είμαστε πολύ χαρούμενοι και αυτές οι διακρίσεις μας δίνουν δυναμη να συνεχιζουμε με αγαπη το εργο μας!

Hydra Island - Men's Costume "Karamanas"

Typical parts of the clothing are the island dark trousers (vraka) or "karamani", the velvet cross sleeveless vest or "koumpouri", the belt used for a case and a white silk cotton silk shirt.
On the head they wore fez while many Greeks during the Revolution wore it with a scarf in various ways.

The cost of the costume was quite high (especially for that time) but they did not wear it only for one year or for a small period οf time. The costume was kept for a lifetime and if it was in a good condition it was inherited from father to son and passed on to grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cretan Evzonas - Presidential Guard

Οι Κρητικοί, όταν πληροφορήθηκαν το ξέσπασμα της επανάστασης στην ηπειρωτική Ελλάδα και τα νησιά, αποφάσισαν να εξεγερθούν. Η απόφαση πάρθηκε στις συσκέψεις που έγιναν στα #Σφακιά στις 7 Απριλίου (Γλυκά νερά) και 15 Απριλίου 1821 (Μοναστήρι της Παναγίας της Θυμιανής) και συμμετείχαν οπλαρχηγοί και πρόκριτοι από όλη σχεδόν την Κρητη

The Cretans, when informed of the outbreak of the revolution in mainland Greece and the islands, decided to revolt. The decision was taken at the meetings that took place in on April 7 (Glyka Nera) and April 15, 1821 (Monastery of Panagia Thymiani) and was attended by chiefs and dignitaries from almost all of Crete
