Kopajos

Our story: Style has an attitude, and even more than that has a story. Our story begins here in Mykonos. Kopa Jos at the time was just a little boy, his father was a good craftsman, used to fix the WW1 soldier’s artificial limbs. Little Jos watched his father working and learned to be a craftsman like his old man. He was always looking at the beautiful and mighty sun of Greece. And he wanted to create something that would shelter his eyes from the sun light. He was working day and night to create the most beautiful sunglasses of his homeland. This was his mission. After the great depression petrol derivates came by and Kopajos, that was his long nickname, loved to get rid of animal derivates material. He knew all the stories from Africa about poor animals getting killed to make his beautiful products. Along the way the good years after the war came. And he was still producing new models, tuning and perfecting his craftsmanship technique. Some say he made shades for the whole Onassis family, for Maria Callas. Some say Les Corbusier asked him for his cool rounded glasses. Some say Aristoteles Onassis bought him a laboratory to watch Kopajos making his sun shade art. All we know is that at the end of the 70’s the good Jos died. And then the 90’s. The good life. The economic boom. His little nephew, Brunos Defelikis came to know about his uncle shop in Mykonos and inherited all the knowledge of Kopajos, studying the projects, taking the shapes up to the next level. The ambitious nephew was travelling the world, thinking about his uncle’s legacy. During the 00’s Brunos produced a limited series in Switzerland of Kopajos sunglasses, with the same attitude and the same feeling his uncle had once upon a time. And now in 2013 we thought together with Brunos to open up the family shop in Mykonos to bring back the vision Jos had. The end of this story is yet to come. The attitude stays the same.
