Happy Earth Day, where we take a break from working to clean up the Earth to spend some time thinking about what we're working to protect.
We love the theme for this year's Earth Day, Our Power, Our Planet, which can be interpreted in many ways.
For us, it perfectly describes the feeling of organizing a clean-up and having over 100 people show up. People who want to take a few hours out of their morning to help, people from all walks of life who genuinely care. I'm always astounded by how much a large group of people can pick up in a matter of a few hours. Sometimes it's 100lbs of microplastics, sometimes 2,000lbs, and as with the tires that we cleaned up last year in partnership with the City of Philadelphia, where volunteers formed a literal chain to remove hundreds of tires by hand, it was over 40,000lbs. And no matter how much, it's insane to see visually the impact we can make together.
The power we have when we work together for a single goal.
So for this Earth Day, we hope you reflect on Power, whether it be your own power to make a difference, or the insane power we all yield when we work together, United for a cause.
P.S. - we held our first high-yield clean-up of the year earlier this month, and our first community clean-up last weekend in our hometown of Philadelphia - more clean-up news to come soon!
