On Sunday, Virgil Abloh, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear, founder and CEO of Off-White, and trailblazing force for change in the fashion industry, passed away, following a private battle with a rare form of cancer. “For over two years, Virgil valiantly battled […] cardiac angiosarcoma,” it was announced on his Instagram page. “He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, all while helming several significant institutions that span fashion, art, and culture.”

Virgil Abloh, the acclaimed menswear designer for Louis Vuitton and founder and CEO of Off-White, died Sunday of cancer, according to a post from his verified Instagram account. He was 41.

Two innovators in the textile industry, Recover and Polopiqué, have partnered in a new multi-year agreement to achieve sustainable manufacturing and provide end-to-end solutions for the fashion industry.

Under the pact, the companies provide brands with the opportunity to take use Recover’s recycled cotton fibers across its product lines.

The fashion industry’s sustainability initiatives are earnest, yet it’s clear there is still a long way to go before it can truly give itself a thumbs up. With greenwashing still running rampant among apparel brands and synthetic fibers comprising 69 percent of all materials used in textiles today, the onus is on brands and their supply chain partners to take responsibility and initiate action. But there is hope.

Brands such as Prana, LVMH and Burberry, as well as denim mills like Artistic Milliners and Saitex are paving a path to true sustainability.
