In the end, it turned out that the quality of the baos we created were sub-par (albeit full of love). Due to the dough not rising properly and the wet and chewy texture of the bao, we figured that it was not of a standard in which we felt comfortable (for health reasons as well) to distribute.

In the meantime we are participating in helping other established homeless and charity groups with their distributions. Soon we will master the recipe and start our second attempt!

How many people does it take to steam a bao?

Three, apparently!

Team work! At the last stage of preparing the baos - the heat from the steamer makes the steamer papers fold. On a similar note, it’s when we come together as a team that we can achieve the impossible.

It all starts with taking the time to make the dough and letting it rise. It’s a practice of patience as we wait two hours to let the yeast work it’s magic. Over these two hours we spent time together laughing and enjoying the golden hour of sunshine! We believe that the joy will become part of the recipe.

Time for the big reveal ~
We are thrilled to be sharing our first community project, “Cooking For The Homeless”!

Proud Bao’s goal is to provide a unique and heart-felt meal for the homeless. By creating food that is reminiscent of a imperfect home-cooked meal, we hope to not only fill the tummies of those in need, but to also fill them with warmth in knowing that other care for them (taking time to cook for them, even if we are not very good at it)!

We will be releasing the short film in parts over this week. Stay tuned.

Our third initiative, confronting racism from external communities, as well as, from within the Asian communities.
Our goal is to bridge the gap between the diverse range of Asian cultures and finding the common grounds that we share. This will lead to more understanding of our similarities and differences and foster empathy towards one another!

The second symbol we would like to introduce is our “Elders in Need” Bao.

This Bao is our mascot and symbol for our projects that focus on helping the homeless.
We believe that, even as a small brand, it is important to support the community however you can.
