[25 Years of Design] is officially open to the public today at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre! The exhibition provides a unique opportunity to not only review the development of Hong Kong's design and architectural culture, but also to present the values and visions of Hong Kong's future development in the Greater Bay Area.

"Everything is by design. It is the process of improving and seeking for excellence, and an important factor in pushing our culture forward. I hope visitors at [ 25 Years of Design ] not only appreciate the exhibits but also understand the hard work behind the scenes. This gives the public the opportunity to gain new knowledge, ideas and ways of thinking, which I hope will take Hong Kong’s cultural scene to the next level," comments Winnie Yue, Organizer and Curator of [ 25 Years of Design ].

Having opened in 1842, Central Market 中環街市 Central Market is as old as Hong Kong as a port city. The marketplace was originally largely made up of consisting of bricks and wood. Over time, the size and shape of Central Market has evolved.

Under the Urban Renewal Authority’s revitalisation and preservation scheme, Central Market was reopened to the public in Aug 2021, from the signs to the building’s columns, original design elements were inherited to unfold the history of the market as well as the design development in Hong Kong.

中環街市中環街市 Central Market 於1842年啟市，它伴隨香港這座港口城市共同成長。建築最初由磚塊與木材建造而成，隨時代的變遷，中環街市的規模和形態在不斷發生變化。

作為市區重建局保育活化項目之一的中環街市，於2021年8月重新向公眾開放，從原有的招牌到建築柱樑，許多建築的原始設計元素被傳承下來，以繼續展現中環街市和香港設計發展的歷史。

As Hong Kong's most anticipated new arts and cultural hub, the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) is one of the world's largest cultural projects, located on the Victoria Harbour waterfront, offering a mix of museums, performance venues, green open spaces and retail and dining facilities. These include M+ M+, West Kowloon Cultural District , Asia's first global museum of contemporary visual culture designed by Herzog & de Meuron Herzog & de Meuron ; the Xiqu Centre Xiqu Centre (戲曲中心), whose architectural design combines traditional and modern elements inspired by traditional Chinese lanterns; and the recently opened Hong Kong Palace Museum 香港故宮文化博物館 Hong Kong Palace Museum, designed by renowned local architect Rocco Yim.

To ease the medical burden amid the coronavirus outbreak in Hong Kong, the Infection Control Centre (HKICC) in Northern Lantau Island and the Tsing Yi Community Isolation Facilities (CIF) were built with the Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) method as temporary isolation and treatment facilities. In this method, free-standing integrated modules were manufactured and assembled in a factory before being transported to the site for installation, which helped to speed up construction.

Combating tight living spaces 🏘️ in Hong Kong, the government is constantly seeking a long-term solution to cater the needs of the general public. At [𝟮𝟱 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻]’s Design Gallery section, visitors will see the design of the first public housing project in Hong Kong built with Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) method. Also built using this design approach are Transitional Social Housing Projects in Hong Kong. This creative method optimises the use of vacant government lands and ensures the strength of the block and the safety of residents.

Green @ Wan Chai is a project under the Environmental Protection Department's (EPD) "Green Community" programme to raise awareness for waste reduction and recycling at the district level. The site is situated between the route connecting the Wan Chai urban area and the future waterfront recreation space.

Designed by BREADstudio, this recycling station is a square shape enclosed site with one side open to the street. The activity space for the public and workshop space occupies either side of the lot.

The grids on the site were meticulously planned according to the dimensions of the cargo containers, while the center of the plaza was designed to a flower garden and the timber trellis with plants that provide shading, insulation and natural ventilation.

「綠在灣仔」為環境保護署（環保署）「綠在區區」計劃下的項目，為加強支援地區層面的減廢回收。這個項目建於連接灣仔市區和未來海濱休閒空間的路線的中點。

這個由BREADstudio設計的回收環保站位於一個方形封閉場地，其中一面向街道開放。公眾的活動空間和工作區域佔據了場地的兩側。

場地中的網格是根據貨物集裝箱的尺寸精心規劃的，同時廣場的中心也被設計成一個花園，攀爬著植物的木棚架提供了遮陽、隔熱和自然通風。
