Thumb Thimble Bespoke tailoring since 1958 Story

Tsang Kwong and his brother Tsang Lok, both trained in Yee On Tai, started Chung Hing Tailor in 1958.

Our team is now leaded by William Tsang, the eldest son of Tsang Kwong. In 2018, Thumb Thimble is adopted as the English name of our house. This small tweak of the thimble denotes the Promethean spirit of the Cantonese tailors and helps stitch comfortably. William, who witnessed the heyday and nadir of the industry, dedicates his life to bespoke tailoring. For more than half a century, he experime

nts different approaches while upholding the traditional craftsmanship, and further develops a more contemporary style. In his new venture, he hopes to train a new generation of tailors to continue the trade. Eric Law met Master Tsang by chance and started learning the basic of cutting and tailoring. Impressed by his master’s persistence in continuously improving the tailoring craft and enthusiasm in training a new generation of tailors, he decided to assist master to relaunch the apprentice programme. Shirley Lee is our first apprentice in 40 years. After completing the tailoring course in CITA, she went on working in a renowned menswear brand and gained further experience on placement in a tailoring workshop. She is also passionate about costume and fluent in Japanese.

The garment pictured is more than a double-breasted suit; it is a masterclass in authority. Crafted from a deep, midnight navy—a shade so saturated it anchors any room—this piece features the ultimate flex in textile luxury: pinstripes of genuine 24k gold thread.Unlike standard metallic synthetics that can feel stiff or garish, the gold in the Grand Cru is spun with such finesse that it catches the light with a soft, ethereal glow.

The silhouette is unapologetically powerful. The double-breasted construction provides a structured chest and a broad shoulder line, creating that coveted V-taper.

The wide peak lapels sweep upward toward the shoulder, the peak lapels are finished with hand-worked buttonholes and a special thread.

The 6 on 2 configuration classic button arrangement provides a balanced, timeless aesthetic that cinches the waist while allowing the luxurious drape of the wool to speak for itself.

Notice how the gold pinstripes flow seamlessly across the pockets and lapel joins—a testament to precise hand-cutting and hand stitching.

We tailor this formal jacket with a specific aim—forgetting the standard black-tie routine. We finds the special texture and tone that contrast with Barathea.

As we step into the party at night, the focus shifts from simple solids to the captivating depth of navy jacquard. This piece isn’t just a jacket; it’s a sartorial statement designed for those who prefer their elegance with a side of mystery. The intricate, tonal floral or paisley-inspired weave catches the light only as wearer moves, shifting from a deep midnight blue to shimmering sapphire.

The brilliance of this particular blazer lies in its balance. The peak lapels provide the necessary formal anchor, while the patterned body introduces a level of visual interest that a standard tuxedo simply cannot match. It’s a garment that speaks of craftsmanship and high fashion—bringing a touch of contemporary flair to the evening repertoire.

The jacquard jacket is ideal for attending a gala, a high-stakes holiday party, or an exclusive opening night, and will ensure you’re not just in the room—you’re the one everyone remembers.

Our client is looking for a chinos that he can wear on weekdays as well as weekend.

Crafted from a high-density black cotton gabardine, he can pair them white poplin shirt for the boardroom or a heavyweight tee and loafers for a Saturday in the city, these chinos bridge the gap between casual and curated.

More importantly, there are subtle details which are the foundation our bespoke tailoring. The sharp, four-button extended tab closure offers a clean closure on the waistband.

The slant pocket follows the natural line of your hand for easy access while maintaining a streamlined profile that won't flare out when you sit. We’ve reinforced the entry points with subtle bar-tack stitching to ensure they hold their shape, no matter how often you reach for your phone or cardholder.

On these black cotton gabardines, the pocket detail is nearly invisible—just the way high-end tailoring should be.

A true mark of quality isn't just how a garment looks from the front—it’s the precision you find in the back.

Behold the button-through welt pocket. We’ve opted for a clean, piped finish that mirrors the elegance of formal trousers while maintaining the rugged durability of high-grade cotton. The single, the horn button adds a touch of classic flair, ensuring your essentials stay secure without disrupting the trouser’s clean silhouette.

Above it, notice the subtle darting—an intentional design choice to provide a more contoured, anatomical fit through the seat. It’s the difference between a pair of pants that just "fits" and a pair that feels custom-made for you.

This cashmere jacket features a clean-lined, minimalist silhouette that bridges the gap between a traditional blazer and a utilitarian chore coat. No notch lapel and collar, no unnecessary noise—just five buttons and a circular neckline that demands a new kind of intentionality from the wearer. It’s a design that rejects the clutter of the past in favor of a sleek future.

Unlike the lower buttons, which are vertical to stay centered along the placket, the top buttonhole is angled to handle horizontal stress. As you move your neck or shoulders, the horizontal orientation allows the button to slide to the end of the hole rather than pulling it open or gaping.

By placing it at an angle or horizontally, it acts as a stable anchor that keeps the collar and the entire front of the jacket perfectly aligned while you're in motion.

The buttoning style is more than a functional choice—it’s a statement on the level of formality you want to project. The beauty of the jacket lies in its transformative buttoning.

Button it all the way to the top. The stand collar creates a clean, architectural silhouette that leans into the jacket’s formal heritage. It’s sharp and authoritative.

Worn fully open, the jacket drapes with an effortless, sweater-like fluidity. This is the ultimate "quiet luxury" power move—showing that true elegance doesn’t need to be tightly fastened.

Close just the middle buttons, leaving the top and bottom open. This creates a subtle "X" shape that mimics the drape of a traditional blazer while maintaining the relaxed ease of a chore coat. It’s the sweet spot for everyday sophistication.

Our client looks for a formal jacket other than the traditional dinner jacket. This cotton velvet fabric immediately caught his attention. The subtle pattern and colour shade mix in perfect harmony. This pair of black tuxedo trousers are tailored Zelander® Dream fabric by Loro Piana. The fabric is lightweight with natural stretch.

We stick with hand-sewn two-piece hook and bar so we can place this fastening at the edge of the waistband overlap. Hand-stitched blue and white linings with curtains served as waistband enforcement and conceals the seams neatly.

The style is defined by the satin stripe running down the outer leg that distinguishes this pair of black tuxedo trousers from standard suit trousers.

The straight pockets are concealed under the stripes. Welted back pockets with button closures are classic elements of tailoring.

This deep blue paisley brocade has a fantastic sheen.

Originating in ancient Persia over 2,000 years ago, the original motif was called "boteh" or "buta," representing a cypress tree (a symbol of life) or a Zoroastrian flame. It was a design with deep meaning, not just a beautiful print.

The pattern traveled the Silk Road, found fame in luxurious Kashmir shawls, and eventually became so popular in the West that it took the name of the Scottish town Paisley where weavers there developed intricate designs inspired by this pattern.
