Pre -War Roots
1900s-1930s
In 1899, Jardine Matheson founded Hong Kong’s first spinning mill, kicking off a new textile era. By the 1930s, weaving and knitting thrived, producing cotton socks, tees, and towels from imported yarn.
Post-War Boom
1940s-1950s
Skilled workers from China revitalized Hong Kong’s textile scene post-WWII. By 1954, 17 local spinners helped build an industry that shaped Hong Kong’s economy.
Golden Age
1960s-1970s
By the 1970s, Hong Kong was the world’s top clothing exporter. With advanced spinning mills and Commonwealth trade perks, local fashion went global.
Modern Transition
1980s-1990s
