Coverage of 1964 Tokyo. Photographer and filmmaker William Klein's captures of Tokyo are cinematic, alive, raw, yet almost surreal.

The book offered on the site is beaten up, but the images, and their presentation within, are beautiful.

From the introduction by Maurice Pinguet, "Like Hokusai, William Klein has created a Manga—a sudden throng of images, faces, streets, crowds, and attitudes, intense and confused, where the past merges with the future in an uproar of appearances. All are instantaneously caught, still moving, alive, and gesturing as in the ephemeral world of Ukiyo-e, often with the caricatural accent Sharaku gave the faces of his actors."

Where to begin?! I learned in these last years that sometimes the best one can do when it comes to travel is to pick up a book or frame an image that represents the ideas, images, beauties usually encountered far from home. When travel came to a halt due to global and personal circumstances, I sought and found fulfillment in the histories, the stories, the images of others.

Everything we have collected is a tangible representation of another person’s history, as well as their representation of a place. Their work has made the world feel more accessible, easier to touch.

Booking a ticket is a great high. But objects, words, images transport to a new or favorite place, a past era, a different frame of mind, too. Our offering reflects our own exploration of the world – now again – sometimes by train, boat, and plane – and sometimes from our couch.
