1) Avoid over-shielding them from potential pitfalls: allowing our children to learn hard lessons from their own mistakes, without judging them at all
2) Learn their interests: getting to know their hobbies/talents enables us to provide a platform for them to develop their inner potential, and hopefully help them realize THEIR dreams (e.g. finding a class, or learning group for them)
