M-43 Service Shoes (Type III)

Adopted by the U.S. Army in 1943, the M-43 Type III marked a major evolution in military footwear. Built with reverse upper leather (rough side out), the grain side is worn inward for easier entry, improved comfort, and durability in the field. A permeable wax treatment enhances water resistance while preserving the leather’s character.

Refined for combat, the toe cap was removed for better mobility, and the sole was upgraded from a half rubber to a full composition sole for added strength and waterproofing. Issued across every WWIl front-from ground troops to air crews-this was a true all-terrain service shoe.
