Among the motifs that have shaped the identity of SAPTO DJOJOKARTIKO, Penara remains the Maison’s first and most enduring signature.

Inspired by the intricate wood carvings of a traditional Javanese gebyok, the motif began as an interpretation of architectural ornamentation before evolving into a distinctive textile language of its own. Over the years, Penara has become inseparable from the Maison, serving as a visual thread that connects collections across time.

So closely associated with the house, the motif has been copyrighted to preserve its originality and unique character. Yet preservation has never meant permanence. Each season, Penara is reimagined through new techniques, scales, and constructions while retaining the essence that makes it instantly recognizable.

Whether expressed through embroidery, appliqué, lacework, embellishment, or woven surfaces, the motif continues to evolve alongside the garments themselves. Developed internally through drawing, sampling, and refinement, each iteration reflects an ongoing pursuit of craftsmanship and innovation.

More than a pattern, Penara represents the philosophy at the heart of SAPTO DJOJOKARTIKO, a belief that heritage is not something fixed, but something living. Continuously revisited, reinterpreted, and renewed.
