Baby Knits by Breda Hand knit baby cardis/hoodies. All profits go to local children's charities! Variety of sizes & colours. Custom orders taken for different sizes & colours!

Breda is a retired primary school teacher who taught knitting for many years. Since retiring she has used her talents for different charitable causes, such as volunteering to teach crafts in schools. In 2014 she knit 60 special baby jumpers with beanies and crocheted 30 blankets for "Fish & Chip" babies in Uganda. These are babies whose parents can't afford to wrap them in anything but newspaper a

fter they are born, hence the nick-name. This year she has knit a collection of baby cardigans, beanies and hoodies. They range in sizes, with a small number for newborns, 3-6months (though she has heard from happy friends that they still fit at 9months!), 6-12months and an extra custom order size 1year+. The prices range from 10euro to 25e, which is incredible when you consider how much time and effort goes into each piece, and that they are knit with quality baby wool. All pieces are machine washable and again friends have told her that they wash really well and have lasted due to the great quality. She is also happy to take custom orders for different sizes, styles and colours.

100% of the profits from the sale of these gorgeous knitted products goes towards local Cork Children's charities, which have included in the past, the Neo-natal ward in CUMH, Féileacháin and fundraising for local Cork Primary Schools. Other charities will no doubt be added to the list as time goes on! Go raibh maith agaibh go léir!

On the left is a more modern robe, from the spring/summer 2022 collection - especially crocheted for the twins’ older brother -who was too big for the family robe, (which in his defence was previously worn by 2 week old babies!!) and remodelled here in 2024!

And on the right is that very special 1979 vintage family Christening robe and shawl (both boys are lying on), re modelled in 2024 by a special mallie man, who was under pressure not to grow any more during a growth spurt a few days before the christening 😂

Always hard to pick a favourite Breda knit - but made worse when you literally own most of the collection!!! The newborn cardies and hoodies would melt your heart (so tiny, when he seemed so huge then!), the leaf blankets are just divine (and still in use!) , the varsity hoodies with initials so unique (and question the future GAA club perhaps!)… and of course the Christening robe made for him so special (and that christening blanket is also a Breda special over 45 years old!)

And you can be sure these were only 10 photos of many more designs and patterns and sizes and colours we are lucky enough to get! Perk of having Breda as your Mamó, obvs!

So if you are looking for a special gift for a new baby or something made with love for your own child, give Breda a call… most of what is on instagram is in stock… and if it’s not, or if it’s only in your head….then I’ve no doubt she will knit what you want!

And just in case that wasn’t enough- all proceeds go to Irish Children’s charities.
