For those who don’t know me yet — I’m Pavel, the person behind Expert Tailoring.
I grew up in Lithuania, where I first learned tailoring — four years in a technological college, surrounded by fabric, patterns, and the kind of quiet focus this craft requires. Back then, it was already clear to me that tailoring isn’t just about sewing… it’s about understanding how something is meant to sit, move, and feel on a person.
In 1998, I was lucky enough to win a gold medal at the EuroSkills competition in the Netherlands — a moment I still remember, not just for the award, but for what it taught me about precision and pride in your work.
I went on to study further — earning a Bachelor’s in Clothing Design and Technology, and later a Master’s in Material Science. It might sound very technical, but in simple terms, it means I’ve spent years learning how fabrics behave — how they stretch, drape, react, and sometimes… misbehave.
After my studies, I spent time in New York working specifically in an alterations environment, where I gained hands-on experience with real clients, real deadlines, and a wide range of garments coming through the door every day. It was a fast-paced setting that sharpened both my technical skills and decision-making — understanding quickly what can be done, how it should be done, and how to achieve the best possible result for each individual piece.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of garments — including men’s suits, where proper construction and understanding of tailoring technology is essential. Those years of doing all kinds of alterations — from simple to highly technical — built a deep, practical understanding of how garments are made and how they can be reshaped without losing their structure or character. Today, I bring all of that experience into one area of focus: wedding dress alterations.
Since moving to Ireland in 2007, I’ve been running Expert Tailoring and working closely with brides on one of the most important garments they will ever wear.
My approach is always the same — to respect the original design, understand the fabric, and carefully bring everything together so the dress feels right, natural, and completely yours.
Because in the end, it’s not just about how a dress looks — it’s about how you feel in it. And if I’ve done my work well, you won’t notice the alterations at all… only the confidence and ease that comes with wearing something that truly fits.
