The Memory Keep Showcase - continues this week in the Hub galleries... as part of the Bealtaine Festival celebrations.

Tomorrow May 12th, 2026 from 2-4pm - The Memory Keep Makers Sheila Wood, Liz Martin and I will be upstairs in the Hub Galleries, demonstrating and chatting about the creative techniques for making fabric memory pages. It’s a great opportunity for visitors to see the "stitching a story" process in action.

Showcase Dates: The Exhibition runs from May 5th to 16th, 2026.
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am – 1 pm/ 2 pm – 6 pm.
Cost: Entry is free. Group bookings are also welcome - but best to pre-book by calling 086-2560609 so that we can try and coordinate Maker(s) to be on-site.

This project is part of the Bealtaine Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the HSE, and supported by Tipperary Arts Office.

🧵 BEALTAINE 2026: ‘The Memory Keep’ Showcase 🪡✨

Join us at the Tudor Artisan Hub from May 5th to 16th for a unique, heartfelt exhibition celebrating memory, creativity, and community.

‘The Memory Keep’ features over 50 handcrafted textile pieces created by nearly 30 participants....each with its own story!
From childhood homes to cherished gardens, beloved pets to landscapes, seascapes and fun adventures, these sensory keepsakes honour lived experiences and loved ones in a truly meaningful way.

This showcase is the result of months of collaboration led by Hub owner Linda Fahy, alongside creative practitioner Sheila Wood and felt-maker Liz Martin. Since January, the team has worked closely with Hub makers and members of the local community, sharing their vision, learning, and teaching together.

The project has been a wonderful example of social prescription in action, creating a supportive space where the act of making and sharing stories promotes genuine wellbeing and connection.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to experience these poignant works firsthand and explore the stories woven into each piece.

Makers Sheila Wood and Liz Martin will also be present at the Hub on select days throughout the exhibition, offering insight into the creative process and encouraging others to discover the thread of their own stories.

Due to demand, Felt Maker Liz Martin has offered to host an additional Wet-Felting Wall Art Making workshop in the afternoon on Tuesday August 12th, 2025 if we can get the minimum numbers.

Information about this workshop:
Liz is completely hooked on felting and loves the wet felting technique, which is centuries old, using different wool types, mostly from Irish sheep. Self-taught, Liz loves to design colourful creations from shawls to handbags to wall art hangings, in fact, wool is so diverse she will have a go at anything!

Liz’s wet felting workshops are suitable for all, especially beginners; no experience required. In a 3-hour workshop session with Liz, you will learn step by step how to wet felt with natural wools, from laying out the fibre, rubbing, rolling, fulling and transforming the wool into a colourful textural felted picture designed by you!

This relaxing workshop offers a sense of achievement as you create your very own piece of felted wall art, ready to frame or hang when finished. You can choose to make a seascape, landscape, floral composition or go abstract, so think of what style you would love to make. Select from a wide choice of coloured wools, and off you go. Once you’ve made your first wet-felting creation, you will be hooked and will be thinking of what you can make next!

The workshop is held in the lovely Tudor Artisan Hub art galleries in the heart of Carrick-on-Suir, where you are surrounded by beautiful art which will inspire you. There will be tea and coffee available and of course some cake to keep us sugared!

Workshop participant numbers are limited to 6 to allow for individual attention, giving you an opportunity to fully understand the technique of wet-felting.

The cost for a 3-hour Wet-Felting Wall Art Workshop is €35 per person.

Delighted to announce a new initiative supporting local Artisans in the Community in collaboration with Ormond Castle.🥳

Next Wednesday, 2nd July, from 11AM-4PM coinciding with First Wednesday - FREE ADMISSIONS to OPW sites, we will be hosting an intimate Arts and Crafts showcase in the Audio/Visual Room in the Tudor Manor House, supporting and celebrating local Makers from Carrick-on-Suir, the Suir and Linguan Valley Regions and beyond.

We will be displaying a carefully curated collection of small arts, crafts, and gifts designed and handcrafted by artisans who are members of the Tudor Artisan Hub.

This Showcase offers visitors to the Castle a chance to view the fabulous collection of arts and crafts on offer in Carrick-on-Suir, an opportunity to engage directly with local Makers, celebrating creativity and craftsmanship.

Makers will be on site to interact with visitors to the Castle, to discuss their creative processes, share the inspiration behind their pieces, and offer insights into the techniques they use. This personal interaction will allow for a deeper appreciation of the craftsmanship involved and the stories each piece tells. The showcase supports both traditional and innovative arts, providing a unique cultural experience for all.

The featured Makers participating in this inaugural Tudor Showcase we welcome Liz Martin, Maker of Lizanne Craft & Design, Carrick-on-Suir, who will be showcasing her latest collection of Felting Crafts and Geraldine Gleeson, Maker of Glass by Ger from Fethard, Co. Tipperary who will be showcasing her latest exquisite Fused Glass creations.❤

We will also have a selection of small arts, crafts, gifts and greeting cards by other talented Hub Makers.

This will be a great opportunity for the Hub Makers to meet new audiences against the wonderful backdrop of the 16th-century Ormond Castle.
