One of Sundays knitters explained that her neighbour called to ask her to feed her dog 🐶
“Oh sorry I’m in Ireland” ☘️ &
Tense moment as she hoped her neighbour didn’t look for more information on that 😅😂

Unless you are in the tribe you’ve no idea and a head full of assumptions! We’ve got them all, from the “I wouldn’t have the patience” 🙄 to the quizzical glances at any daylight attempt to progress our projects in view.

And So, we travel in packs!
Around the world full of investigation and exploration with an admiring eye and knowledge hungry.
Every day of a knitting tour starts a new with a well edited trail plan!

It was my joy this year to share these hours with you all, to laugh and cry over stitches and stories.

The Battenkill Textile Tours featured here on Sunday was a last hooray until Spring. Like migratory birds and painted ladies I will await your return after the Winter frost.

Such unique memories here! 2021 &
Culture night was a lonely little me until it got dark! My heart was full as a young girl watched sbc asked if “the sheep were yellow?” Because “my wool was yellow”.
I was showing arm knitting on thick carded wool. Another put me on video to talk to her mum crocheting in Italy ⭐️🤍🌙🧶

Best wishes to all the brave hearts out and in sharing all versions of our culture

A young girl asked me if the sheep were yellow as my “sheep’s wool” for arm knitting was (stop my heart ❤️)

I spoke live to a lady crocheting in Italy when her daughter connected us,
Packing & leaving a young couple eating ice cream insisted on Shipquay street carried our bags to the car,

The Honeycomb

When the six and eight stitches versions of Donegal Aran honeycomb rival in beauty, there’s room for all.
I call this ‘banshee red’ in Cloud’s jumper as the depth of this tweed colour is like a dark Irish story that goes deeper than berries, blood or red w**e associations, it’s elevated.
Wildflower on Ella has a grown up honeycomb, double twists of four each way and other Irish mysteries.
Aran’s like these were knit in Donegal for growing up in, weather facing, repaired and passed on. Surely the love 🤍 in the handknit stitches brought love to the bones too, a science not yet dissected. A belief system beyond commerce power or religion, a belief set in seanfhocail ~our oldest words or proverbs,

1990’s!
Sherwood green chenille swing trapeze coat early to mid 1990’s & how many we crafted! Sold to the best of retailers in the USA & UK mostly. Testimony to how good at hand looming chenille we were (firm tension so no looping, steady handed so yarn didn’t snap). Made circular knit (sideways) with front neck & raglan shaping worked at the same time. Finished with a hand crochet fishnet scarf attached. Easy to wash. Grateful to the talented ladies working with me these years (Convoy mill & Derry too) - feels worthwhile to make things of such lasting provenance and story.
Looks like the seller is in OHIO

JUNE

Hyperlocal here in Donegal 🤍💚💛

While a night The Rusty Mackerel was booked there was no big plan! It was an adventure, from the pre gig trad music, to a conversational altercation later 👋 lol 😂 (no harm done)
Great 😊 food, company, fires & fiddle.

A ramble the very long way home was just wonderful. Ran into all my favourite knitting folks in Glen and Carrick. Even had the best coffee and treats at Kellys Corner (Gkencolmcille),
Chatting knitting & nerdy wool stuff there with Michael McNelis.

The seaweed at Teelin pier was beyond normal inspiration, it seemed to dance and have a colour of yellow green that only real mermaids could make?
The winding road back through Carrick and a stop off at the new Main Street Sweater Shop by Rossan. I’d to try on a few of ‘our’ original R10 roll tweed jumpers! It’s older than Emma managing the 4th generation knitting business of Rossan now!
It’s never been busier too.
Will the R10 be around in another 30/35 years???
Lovely to see Rossans founder Mary still hand knitting stock in her 101 year.

John Joe gave us a run down on his incredible month at John Joes in Kilcar. How did we end up in John Joe’s? I’ve no idea but we should have booked another night as it was back to the knitting before dusk! It was great to see the new trees x 2 he planted on the river there beside the trees he planted age 14!

Still, not complaining. I’ve still miles & miles of Donegal to experience, it never ceases to fill my soul with wonder.
