Heyyyyy
Girly it’s been a minute!
I’ve been quite busy lately. I recently started a new job as a fabric specialist, which I am really really enjoying. With this new routine and doing my sewing night courses, I’m still trying to find my routine with studio time but we’re getting there!
I just wanted to share this though.
As some of you may remember, A big part of my brand journey stemmed from working in Svp as a warehouse assistant, which I worked for 4.5 years. I landed this job right after college and didn’t pick up the sewing machine again until COVID. Making masks sparked something again. But I really took pride in this role.
I got to sort donations daily, categorise stock and fulfil shop orders for the Dublin/greater region. I developed such a good understanding of how consumers value their clothing and their shopping patterns. Seeing clothing being donated that were still available to buy in shops from fast fashion companies, I wanted to utilise these, along with deadstock fabric and turn them into ‘new’ products to love.
When I left this role, I saw it as an opportunity to take the leap and pursue fashion and set up my own slow fashion label, which I’m so lucky I get to do to this day.
But before I left SVP, it was always a dream of mine, to see clothing from my own line, being donated and make it into the charity shop circulation. Making it a complete full circle moment in my fashion journey.
Well, my co-worker who I used to work with, sent me this photo recently. It had been donated to Svp! It gave me such a kick, it was so exciting for me to see! I remember where this fabric came from, who bought it as a gift and the alternation work that came along after words for the gift receivers own clothing. Building up that customer relationship made me feel so fulfilled.
To know enjoyment was had from this garment, and was donated for someone else to enjoy. That’s just so fecking cool to me.
And to top it all off, I text my friend and said ‘I hope you’re putting an elegance tag on that now’. We had the general tag, vintage tag and elegance tag for designer clothing. She send me back a photo and I got the elegance stamp of approval 🌸
