I started Hunter Treacy Tailors back in 2019.

Yes… just before COVID. Great timing.

The idea actually came from my own wedding. I’d ordered a made-to-measure suit that not only didn’t arrive on time — it didn’t arrive at all. Two weeks before the wedding, I had to buy a suit off the rack and have it altered.

That experience got me thinking.

At the time, I felt Dublin lacked an approachable option for someone who wanted a properly made, made-to-measure suit without feeling intimidated or looked down on.

I’d spent the previous 10 years working in finance, wearing suits nearly every day and regularly travelling to London. I always admired the incredible tailors and menswear shops there and wondered why we didn’t have more of the same in Dublin.

With a background in finance and digital marketing, I did the numbers, built a website and started travelling around Europe visiting manufacturers and factories, while learning everything I could about fabrics, fit and tailoring.

We eventually opened on the ground floor of Sam’s Barbers on Dame Street — a huge shout-out to Sam for giving us our start.

Then COVID happened.

Customers sent us measurements, we made their suits remotely and shipped them out. Slowly, we built a customer base and some fantastic reviews.

When restrictions lifted, particularly with weddings, things went absolutely bananas. Eventually I was able to leave my day job and run Hunter Treacy full time.

Since then, we’ve gone from a barber shop on Dame Street → a small office on Pembroke Street → a bigger office on Pembroke Street → our current studio on Merrion Square.

Today, we’ve made thousands of suits for thousands of customers.

And we’re still only getting started.

We’re now growing our ready-to-wear collections alongside made-to-measure and continuing to build what I originally felt Dublin was missing.

To everyone who has trusted us over the years — thank you. Many customers have become friends along the way, and I’m incredibly grateful for it.

Here’s to what comes next.

I meant to post this earlier in the month but we have some Made to Measure Offer for August that have been extended for September also. Please note we will be visiting suppliers in September so won’t have many appointment days available. If you need a suit for 2026, book in soon.

A quick tour of our Merrion Square studio! We’re there a year now which is wild and we’re delighted with how the space is coming together. We have some beautiful Deconstructed flannel blazers in the works and some incredible chinos almost ready.

Very much looking forward to slightly cooler weather (hopefully still dry!) so we can start wearing a few more layers. This blazer is cut from a deadstock Hopsack with a 3 roll 2 button configuration. Made to Measure button down shirt from a poplin cotton that I really enjoy wearing and the chinos are a sample from our incoming Ready to Wear heavy cotton chinos, single pleat and left unfinished so a turnup can be added if required. They’re made from a deadstock fabric from a luxury French designer (H-E-R-M-E-S) and I’ve never seen a cotton of such amazing quality. Loafers are our own brand, chocolate brown suede - almost sold out.

Ready to Wear / Seasonal Collection

One of our favourite aspects of what we do is getting an idea, finding the perfect fabric, designing the suit and the seeing the finished result. We have built an amazing supplier network in Italy to ensure we can source the absolute finest suiting and shirting fabrics and easily get those sent to our manufacturing partners.

By working directly with fabric suppliers and actual manufacturers (as opposed to handing it off to third parties), we have complete control over the quality and finish of our tailoring which basically means we can supply superior quality tailored items at fair prices.

Our Ready to Wear collection comprises of timeless suits, some for summer, some year round (Winter collection in the works) and is made from the same fabrics we use for our Made to Measure suits. Same construction, same attention to detail but available to purchase online or in our studio on Merrion Square. We of course will tailor the suits to you if required.

Some people don’t have the time or budget for Made to Measure so that’s why we’ve started doing limited runs of Ready to Wear - when we say limited, we mean one per size and that’s it.
