There is something so elegant about a pure silk veil.

When choosing bridal accessories, it can be tempting to add more detail, more sparkle or more embellishment, but sometimes less really is more. A beautifully cut veil in soft tulle can completely transform a bridal look without taking anything away from the dress itself.

For me, the best veils are the ones that create a choesive look with the dress. They add softness, movement and romance while allowing the dress to remain the pièce de résistance.

French Chantilly lace has been prized for centuries for its delicate, romantic appearance and exquisite craftsmanship.

Traditionally made in France using fine silk threads, Chantilly lace is characterised by its intricate floral patterns, soft drape and the beautiful outlining cord that gives the design such depth and definition. Even today, the finest Chantilly lace is produced on traditional Leavers lace looms, a painstaking process that creates a level of detail that is difficult to replicate.

One of my favourite ways to use French Chantilly lace is on a mantilla veil.

Unlike a veil with a gathered comb or heavily embellished edge, a mantilla veil allows the lace to take centre stage. The lace frames the face beautifully before flowing softly around the shoulders and down the length of the veil, creating an elegant and timeless look.

A mantilla veil works particularly well with simple gowns, allowing the beauty of the lace to become part of the overall design. Rather than competing with the dress, it adds softness, texture and a touch of old-world romance.

Little tip for my brides during this hot weather ☀️

Once you’ve brought your dress home from alterations, you’ll probably be trying it on a few times before the wedding day — but in really warm weather, it’s so important to be careful when handling it.

Our hands naturally release moisture, oils and even residue from hand cream or tan, and unfortunately these can transfer onto delicate fabrics without you even realising.

One of the simplest ways to protect your dress is to use plain white cotton gloves when trying it on, especially if your gown has buttons, lace, silk or lighter fabrics.

It’s such a small thing but it can help avoid marks, staining or discolouration and keep your dress looking absolutely perfect for the big day 🤍

A real family affair 💙

I was delighted to design the beautiful turquoise mother of the groom dress for this wedding along with the bride’s veil.

What I love most about my job is that every piece is completely different because every person is different. For me, it’s never just about making clothes or accessories. It’s about creating something that feels like them and reflects their personality, style and presence.

Seeing both pieces together on such a special day was really lovely.

So this is something special about an Irish wedding when the sun actually decides to make an appearance ☀️

I had the pleasure of creating this bespoke veil for Saturday’s beautiful bride, Michelle.

One of my favourite parts of designing a custom veil is creating something that truly belongs with the dress rather than competing with it. Your veil should complement the gown perfectly and everything should work together as one cohesive look rather than taking away from the detail of the dress itself. I think this picture captures that beautifully.

Such a lovely day for a lovely couple 🤍

One little tip for all of my brides after the wedding day 🤍

Once the celebrations are over, one of the most important things you can do for your dress is to have it cleaned as soon as possible. Even if your gown doesn’t need a full clean, it’s really important to make sure any marks or stains are dealt with before the dress is packed away.

A lot of the time, stains aren’t immediately obvious. Things like prosecco, makeup, fake tan, perfume, sweat, grass, mud or even sugar from the wedding cake can seem invisible at first, but over time they begin to oxidise and darken. Unfortunately, once stains have been left sitting in the fabric for months or years, they become much more difficult and sometimes impossible to fully remove.

Whether you hope to pass your dress on to a daughter or family member one day, lend it to somebody else, sell it, donate it, or even redesign it into something new, proper cleaning and storage will help preserve the fabric beautifully for the future.

Once cleaned, your dress should be stored somewhere cool, dry, and away from direct sunlight. Breathable garment bags are always a much better option than plastic covers long-term, as fabrics need airflow.

A little bit of care now can make such a difference years down the line 🤍

One little thing that’s really important if you’ve ordered your veil online… take it out of the box as soon as it arrives.

Veils are often folded tightly for shipping and those creases can take quite a while to naturally fall out, especially with longer veils or softer tulles. Hanging it up straight away gives the fabric time to relax properly before the big day.

A padded hanger somewhere safe and dry is perfect.

If your veil has deeper or more embedded creases, it’s also a good idea to start steaming it well before the wedding day. Veils often need a few gentle steaming sessions for the creases to fully release, especially if they’ve been tightly folded for a long period of time.

It’s much better to steam lightly, let the veil dry fully, and then repeat again another day if needed, rather than trying to force all the creases out in one go. Delicate fabrics really do respond better to a softer approach 🤍

There’s something very special about clothing that carries a story with it. I’ve always loved re-purposing pre-loved pieces, especially for important family occasions where the dress may only have been worn once or twice, yet holds so many memories.

I think there’s something lovely about traditions being passed down through generations, while each person still brings their own little touch and personality to it. A dress becomes more than fabric. It becomes part of a family story.

This Communion dress has been worn by all of the sisters in one family, and now it’s being carefully kept for the next generation of grandchildren to wear someday. I absolutely love that.

There’s also something very meaningful about slowing down a little and cherishing what already exists, rather than always starting from new. Restoring, altering, and reimagining pieces so they can continue to be loved is one of my favourite parts of what I do. ✨
