It's been a while since we posted but we've been fairly busy - working on a new website which is nearly ready - our online sales are still happening and we're still running the shop in William Street, Galway.
We've had a bit of excitement this week by joining our friend Liam McNamara's adventures at his home beach in Fanore Co Clare.
Liam likes to clear his head by doing some beachcombing at the local beach. He finds a bewildering assortment of flotsam and jetsam and shares images of his finds on his page. We follow the page and have long admired his photographic ability.
Earlier this year he found an American style Construction Helmet. He took some photos and posted them on his page. Some followers shared the post and somebody in the States took notice of the LSU (Louisiana State University) Tigers sticker and surmised the helmet might have come from there.
Another eagle eyed viewer spotted an Engineering Union sticker on the helmet and contacted the Union Branch - the Union put it on their Social Media and the original owner was found.
Matthew had been working on a platform and the helmet had fallen into the Mississippi River 5 years before. It had followed the river to the sea, entered the Caribbean Sea, got picked up by the Gulf Stream and ended up on the beach in Fanore.
Liam made contact with the owner and promised to return it.
We ship to the States all the time and offered to use our services in returning the helmet. Liam agreed, we were ready to go and then Covid happpened!
He dropped in the helmet last week and we shipped it today.
We couldn't resist taking some pictures to prove it had been in our shop. Hopefully it will get to Louisiana in less than the 5 years it took to get here.
Thought we would share the story. We can't sell another hat like Matthew's but have a good selection of other ones on our website 😀
