Du Coeur

Du Coeur Design and letterpress studio in the heart of Kildare. http://www.du-coeur.com Du Coeur operate from a small studio in the heart of Kildare.

We design, and create just for you, paper based products that are beautiful and tactile. Each piece handled in person throughout the entire production process, bringing with it not only elegance and quality, but a sensory experience. We are driven by an overwhelming desire to please, a creative process that borders on contagious, and the drive to be associated with excellence. Our clients are our

focus and when we do, we do from the heart. We marry modern, digital techniques and equipment with those from a bygone era to bring you the very best of both worlds. Our stock materials are from carefully sought cotton (tree free) or papers from a sustainable source. Just because some of our techniques are almost 600 years old, it doesn't mean our thinking and behaviour has to follow suit. Most people are aware of modern printing techniques and equipment, but fewer are aware of the precursor to them. A (very) Brief History of Letterpress

Letterpress printing is a technique of relief printing using a printing press. A printer composes and locks movable type into the bed of a press, inks it, and presses paper against it to transfer the ink from the type which creates an impression on the paper. Letterpress printing was the normal form of printing text from its invention by Johannes Gutenberg in the mid-15th century until the 19th century and remained in wide use for books and other uses until the second half of the 20th century. Letterpress printing remained the primary way to print and distribute information until the twentieth century. Letterpress techniques by their very nature produce tiny variations throughout the printing process. The ink coverage, depth of the impression, the actual position on the page. All of these differences make each pressing unique and when looked at closely, give birth to character, individuality, and something that is, well, just a little bit out of the ordinary. We welcome challenge, as well as new and exciting ideas. We welcome custom requests and orders, as well as those from our current product lineup. Most of all, we welcome you and thank you for your interest in Du Coeur.
