There’s a glimmer of sunshine out there right now, but looking out the window the last few months feels a bit like looking into a cold, damp bowl of porridge. We’ve spent so long bundled up like Arctic explorers, sporting enough layers to make an onion jealous and perfecting the art of "waterproof-ish" dressing.
Between the sideways sleet and the gale-force winds that only seem to happen when you’re riding uphill, there’s a glimmer of hope.
Spring is officially HERE!
We aren't quite at the "short sleeves and sunscreen" stage yet (let’s not get ahead of ourselves, this is Ireland) but we are entering that glorious, chaotic transition known as Flappy Jacket Season.
You know the one. It’s that magical time of year where you start the climb zipped up to your chin, but by the halfway mark, you’re glowing like a radiator. Suddenly, the zip comes down, and your windbreaker transforms into a majestic, neon-coloured cape, flapping behind you like you’re a superhero fueled by caffeine and cake.
It’s the first sign of cycling freedom! It means the "Big Coat" is going back in the wardrobe, the heavy overshoes are nearly retired and soon—very soon—we’ll be riding without feeling like we’re wearing a weighted duvet. We can’t WAIT to trade the winter slog for longer days, brighter spins and that legendary post-ride coffee that actually feels earned because you didn't get frostbite getting there.
So, hang in there. Keep the legs moving. We made it through another long and crusty winter.
