Niine Sanitary Napkins, a leading company in India's hygiene solutions sector, has launched the country's first Polylactic Acid (PLA)-based biodegradable sanitary pads. Certified by the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), these novel sanitary pads, composed of PLA derived from renewable sources such as corn starch and sugarcane, decompose over 90 per cent within 175 days and the remainder within one year.

US-based Cornell University researchers have developed a wearable technology called KnitDema that can help massage swollen areas of a patient with hand oedema.

Hand oedema is a condition that causes the accumulation of excess fluid in the hand due to injury or disease, and the best current treatment for it is manual oedema massage (MEM) by a trained therapist. However, access to care and cost can make the procedure prohibitive for some patients.

The UK government has decided to retain existing measures on imports of continuous glass fibre from China, as recommended by the TRA. This means the UK’s glass fibre industry, predominantly based in Wigan, will continue to be protected from injury caused by dumped and subsidized imports of glass fibre from China for five years, from January 31, 2021.
