Attention and respect for nature and how to live in it is of utmost importance as we strive for a more healthy and livable planet, and for our futures. Fighting against the decimation caused by fast fashion and working for positive change: this ethos is at the center of Sustainable Knitwerkz. SK was begun by Rachael Warner in 2008. Its' first incarnation was Spratters & Jayne - a sustainably knit
soft accessories brand. It has since expanded into a sustainable fashion consultancy, bringing sustainable supply chain to other brands and designers in knit, crochet and artisan loom weaving, as well as continuing to produce capsule soft accessories collections for customers and fans of the brand. In keeping with her North Dakota farming roots, when she couldn't find what she sought in the marketplace, she made it herself. Soon family and friends were requesting the handmade scarves, wraps and cowls. When a stranger on a street in New York City offered to buy the very scarf Rachael was wearing, it was clear she had a much wider audience. What started as a simple personal action spread. Warner made the decision early on to work with cooperatives and sustainable producers around the world where fiber arts are a long standing tradition, and respect for workers, animals and nature is central. Sustainable Knitwerkz uses only artisan owned companies to produce our collections - ensuring that positive change doesn't end with the way you feel when you wear one of our pieces. Each item is handcrafted individually for us, to exacting standards, using traditional techniques to produce 21st century designs. Warner studied at Vassar College and received her MA in photography from the University of the Arts in London. A lifelong photographer with a passion for music, her work has graced the pages of Rolling Stone, Spin and New Musical Express in the UK. These together with her interest in fashion history, environmentalism, sustainability and the continuing tradition of handcraft create a unique voice that is exclusively Spratters & Jayne. Join us in our fight for the planet and humanity!
