KHDC was incorporated in 1975 under the Government of India’s (GoI’s) 20-point programme. KHDC’s primary objective is to promote the handloom industry and to facilitate economic self-sufficiency of weavers. KHDC supplies raw material (yarn) for weaving fabric, against payment of conversion charges. It buys the finished product, makes necessary value additions, and markets the same through its Priy

adarshini brand of53 outlets across the India. KHDC also implements GoI’s and Government of Karnataka’s (GoK’s) schemes for the welfare of the weaver community, including funding living-cum-workshed, promoting thrift schemes, and providing covers under group savings-linked insurance schemes. KHDC derives around 65 per cent of its revenues from GoK: it supplies cloth material for GoK’s Vidya Vikas Scheme and Saree Dhoti Scheme.
