Areca nut’s sustainable colour “Chogaru” is solution for toxic chemical dyes.
Areca nut syrup, also known as "chogaru/thogaru " in the local language, is a natural dye extracted from the areca nut palm tree (Areca catechu) found in tropical regions of South and Southeast Asia. It is a traditional dye used in the textile industry for coloring fabrics and is known for its vibrant and long-lasting color.
This Karnataka's initiative to promote the use of natural dyes over toxic chemical dyes is a positive step towards a more sustainable future. By reducing the reliance on harmful chemicals and supporting local communities, the state is working towards a healthier and more equitable future for all.
This Areca's red by-product yields a 'green' dye., This dye is considered "green" because it is derived from a renewable resource and is free of harmful chemicals that can be toxic to the environment and to workers in the textile industry.
The extraction of the red dye from the areca nut by-product involves boiling the by-product with water to extract the pigment, which is then strained and mixed with an alkaline solution to make it suitable for dyeing. The resulting dye has a vibrant red color that can be used to color a variety of textiles.
One of the main advantages of using areca nut dye is that it is an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic dyes commonly used in the textile industry. It is also a sustainable option, as it utilizes a by-product from the areca nut processing, reducing waste and promoting the use of renewable resources.
In conclusion, the red by-product from areca nut processing can be used as a natural and environmentally friendly dye for coloring textiles. Its vibrant red color and eco-friendly production make it a great alternative to synthetic dyes and a step towards a more sustainable future.

Bengaluru’s 25th Annual Tech Summit- Shreem Lotus Community’s first ever participation at such a huge event in Bengaluru! Thanks to our strong and surging start-up community.
It was great to meet industry colleagues and likeminded community members. The energy among the delegates and experts alike was truly inspiring.
Our stall at the summit drew a lot of attention for our innovative and sustainable products. Along with our partner Himalayan H**p ®Community, we had conversations with the delegates around our plant-based fabrics (lotus, h**p & bamboo), and eco-friendly products which use H**p produce.
It was an honour to witness the talks with Chief Minister. Shri Basavaraj Bommai, industry ministers, actor Suniel V Shetty and Shradha Sharma ( YourStory). Through panel discussions, we molded ideas around sustaining and scaling our unique position in a global ecosystem.

How H**p Slap was started.

H**p Slap Hut is one of the only 4 h**p-made builds in India so far and first in Himachal Pradesh. Coming soon in Bangalore.

It is made by atavistic Wattle and daub construction method and still remains as one of the most unplanned projects.

One day, we were wondering about what is to be done with the stalks as farmers were suggesting to burn them to make space for other things and there, in next 30 days; all the raw material gets converted into a reusable, cement-free, concrete-free, lime-free and biodegradable build.

Since our approach is more in line with creating a community and a model based on raising awareness; we also decided to do it in the form of a workshop.

There was no team initially but with the confident approach of our veteran Civil Engineer, Collin Hyde-gomes and serendipitous coming together of volunteers for the plant, Sankara Chivakula, Manimaran Manjunathan, and Chirayu Vyas; we were able to form a crew. As a promise for the workshop participants; we also finalised Shreyas Papanna as the Architect of our crew.

Our motive of creating this building was to have an experimental analysis while implementing our knowledge based on discussions with experts and following peer-reviewed sources.

Read more about how H**p Slap Hut came out to be what it is today by clicking at the blog link. We are having an upcoming free online workshop to explain about our experience so far and teaching participants about h**p and it’s application in general and more specifically in construction.

We are delighted to welcome you all at our center in Bengaluru to be part of workshop.
