Parvathy called me late in the night and my paranoid self freaked out. And because I couldn't stay on call for too long, she sent me long messages sharing her feelings. 🥹 All her words, not mine!
I would never use these words for myself. Just sharing this here is making me feel all kinds of embarassed 🙈 But I understand it's what helps y'all feel like you can trust me with your pieces in the future ✨

Side note: That night, I was having a very tough time emotionally so to see all these messages filled with love and encouragement we're just so heartwarming and reassuring ♥️

It's National Handloom Day and I've had a long week. I have no energy for a reel so here's a post instead! 🕺🏽

I have been collecting (and continue to) fabric wastes for more than a decade. But I've been subconsciously very careful of what I pick. Recently when someone asked me what kind of fabrics I use for these patches, I said they're mostly cotton but never polyester. Then I actually sat down to see what fabrics these were. And about 70% of them ended up being handwoven cottons 🤩💚

This image is of some of the patches that are made in handwoven cottons. These include Mangalagiri, Andhra cotton, Muslin of two different weights and Dharwad cotton.

All of these were small cut offs, collected from artisans and brands I have worked with in the past. They were all very happy to let me have them though I'm sure atleast some thought I was completely bonkers because when they'd ask what I will use them for, I had no answer. And now I have more answers than I can possibly bring to reality 🫠🕺🏽💚✨

I had a strange thought today. I don't know where's it suddenly came from.
I wanted to post these clips of me working on the last mend I'd shared. But I thought I shouldn't because they're fun! And if people think I'm having fun while I'm working on their mends then why would they feel compelled to pay me for them.
I know, I was startled by this thought too. At some point we've been taught to believe that work is serious and having fun at work is not "professional".
THIS is the only way I can work! And I'm bledy good at it. Fun must be had! It's the only way to sustain an independent, small "business" 💚✨

I know we have to go back to regular programming (At least till we can figure out what our next steps must be as citizens).
But I cannot do that without acknowledging what these two weeks have meant for me.
I've never separated my work from my politics. That's just who I am and I don't expect everyone to be that way. But it was always difficult to explain to people why I do what I do without getting into the politics of it. And now it seems like it's become easier to have such conversations without "bringing down the mood" of a group.
So it's heartening to see that there's fire in us yet. That if we come together we can infact move mountains. It's not just something from fables. It's an actual possibility. It's hope! ✊🏽🤍💚✨

It doesn’t mean I have it all figured out. I just think, for me as a person, this system is working well for now. So I will continue.

The only downside so far has been that I’m not taking up as much work anymore, which means a drop in income. I’ve to figure that out for sure. And also tackle the guilt that comes with that.

And by “work” everywhere I mean things that bring in income. The two days of creative play are just as serious as “work” days. I’m just not getting paid for them…yet!
