Ikat is a commitment made before the fabric exists. The yarn is tied, dyed, and aligned every motif decided, every colour locked before a single thread is woven. On a sari, that process unfolds across 6 yards. There is room to breathe. Room for the pattern to find itself.
On a blouse, you have 80 centimetres.
The banana leaf had to land exactly where it should across the body, down the sleeve, around the neckline. The lotus had to bloom in the right place. The midnight teal had to hold its depth through three rounds of dyeing. No corrections after. No moving a motif once the yarn is set.
Banana motifs in ikat are unique to Vani Vrtti. This design draws from Pichwai and Kangra paintings the banana tree as auspicious symbol, the lotus as offering, nature as the truest muse. The coral pink lining at the neckline. The fabric-covered buttons running down the front. Nothing placed without intention.
This is Vani Vrtti’s one of the most precise work.
