STORY-1 ASHWATTA
Pururavas falls in love with urvashi, the apsara. They spend many a years in marital bliss, until urvashi realises she cannot stay longer in the world of mortals, and sadly leaves him. gandharvas take pity on Puraravas decides to include him as a gandharva so he can be re united with urvashi. The gandharvas appear before pururavas and gives him the divine fire, where he can purify himself. Puraravas is delighted and decides to take a holy bath in the rivers before he enters the fire. He places the fire on the forest floor only to find, on his return, the fire would have become the Ashwatta tree.
STORY-2 TULASI
Vrinda , asura Jalandhara's wife was an epitome of virtue. Puffed with pride of invinsibility, jalandara, troubled the manavas and the devas. Vishnu knew that the strength of jalandhara was in the faithfulness of vrinda. As answer to the prayers of the devas, Vishnu impersonates jalandhara and appears before vrinda . Vrinda is seduced by Vishnu in disguise. Jalandharas strength weakens as vrinda was no longer chaste. Jalandhara is finally killed and angry vrinda confronts Vishnu. Vishnu begs forgiveness saying even innocent people have to suffer for a good cause of eliminating evil in the society. Vishnu blesses vrinda that she shall be born as tulasi and shall be worshipped by the devout women.
STORY-3 BILVA
Lakshmi wanted to worship shiva. She collects fresh lotus blooms from the lake. While offering 108 flowers she found she was short of two flowers. She realizes that getting up to collect flowers now will result in incompletion of her worship ritual.
She remembers Vishnu praising her breasts, and equating them to the lotus blooms. She cuts off one breast and offer it to shiva. Shiva pleased by her devotion stops her from cutting her other breast, and identifying the cut breast as part of her manifestation as mother earth, he plants the cut breast which grows into a bilva tree. Bilva is therefore treated as Lakshmi herself and the tri foliated leaves are very dear to Shiva.
STORY-4 RUDRAKSHA
Parvathi once sees the Apsaras bedecking themselves and looking beautiful. She feels envious of them. She looks at herself being the wife of an ascetic, and to be a wife of a yogi means simple living and no shrungara. Feeling sad asks shiva for some jewels. Shiva gives her a sermon of simplicity which she cant bear to listen to it. Saddened by her situation she threatens to go back to her parents royal house. Shiva is shocked by her decision, and in sadness of loosing her he sheds tears and the tears on touching ground becomes Rudraksha. Parvati picks those rudrakshas and makes jewels of them and is happy to remain with him .
STORY-5 PARIJATA
Once the sun god , while on his celestial journey, sees this beautifull maiden, in the company of her friends. He madly falls in love with her. He entices the innocent girl. He sports with her, and finally deserts her. Heart broken she dies. From the ashes of her cremation rises the parijata tree. The flowers of which blooms only in the night and at the touch of the first daylight, the flowers fall to the ground.
STORY-6 KUSHA
Lava and Kusha are growing up in the ashram in the forest with their mother seeta. One day the aswamedha horse passes by their forest, with ramas army. The boys catch the horse and ties it up. The army warns but the boys do not want to give up. The army fails and Shatrugha, bharath and even lakshmanas attempt to ward off the fight ended with defeat. Rama himself appears and confronted the children. When enquired it ewas revealed to him that the two boys were his sons and seeta is under the ashrams protection.. Seeta hands over her children and refuses to come to his palace, and asks her mother earth to swaollow her up that very instant. The earth opens up. Kusha runs to his mother and succeeds to catch only her hair, and that becomes the grass and was named after kusha.
