Fabrics are like the ocean, constantly transforming themselves, ebbing and flowing, enclosing life in their undulating form, nebulous yet precise with a quiet certainty... mesmerizing... seamless... mysterious...
My deep appreciation and love for traditional weaves, and my belief in the timeless beauty of textiles led me to produce works of textile art - either single creations or limited editions of two or three. My work of many years has evolved now into the brand - Roopal Gopaldas. At Roopal Gopaldas the hallmark of a good design is the perfect union of beauty and functionality. I Roopal Gopaldas the designer, achieve this vision by uniting the old and the new. Thus old world fibres mingle with new fibres in the capable hands of artisans skilled in old techniques and endowed with a rich inherited knowledge. ROOPAL GOPALDAS - The Designer
Roopal Gopaldas graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda (now Vadodara) with a degree in Applied Arts. She worked in various fields of design such as Graphics, Photography, Water Colours, Ceramics, Visual Merchandising, Interiors and Furniture Design before launching herself wholly into the field of textiles, where she has been creating works of textile arts for sixteen years. Roopal Gopaldas brings about in her textile creations a perfect union of tradition and contemporary design, and her love of handloom and embroidery has transformed textiles into art forms. Her designs are known for intricate workmanship: the enhance the hand weave and also enrich hand embellishments, they are refined and elegantly chic. Through her brand Roopal Gopaldas, Roopal showcases the myriad forms of wearable and non-wearable textiles in the way she sees them – as symbol of eternal grace and elegance in India’s rich textile heritage. She personally designs each hand woven article and hand embroidery motif: each creation is a statement of personal style at its best. Moreover she personally sources all the raw materials for weaving and embellishments. Roopal Gopaldas is a perfectionist in the approach to design, quality and statement. This same spirit of perfection enabled her to become the National speed skating Champion in her student days! She works closely with her suppliers, weavers and embroiderers, exploring, experimenting, and discarding trail pieces until she acquires the art work that does justice to her vision - the exquisite work of textile art that she offers you. She hopes to transfer the joy, love and passion behind each textile – the idea behind each design, the skill behind the weave and embellishments, the vibrancy of every colour, the texture of every fabric – into a dream experience for YOU to wear, drape, frame, and Love.
