A design studio and boutique retailing Indian couture, pret and fabric from different parts of the country – Benaras, Lucknow, Calcutta, Chanderi and many more. Designers, Padmini Chandra and Kavya Chandra work with their team to create exquisite garments and one-of-a-kind ensembles for women and men, encompassing the entire shopping experience from fabric to design. Located in Indiranagar, their
studio is in a white and aqua bungalow with each floor dedicated to a different department. The boutique, housing saree’s, fabrics, couture and pret, is set beautifully with yellow and cream walls and soothing music. The top floors are dedicated to the ex*****on of ensembles – the tailoring and hand-embroidery units. Bustling with energy, the chaotic atmosphere of these units is a strong contrast the calmness of the boutique. The designer duo loves their Benarasi fabrics, from saree’s to dress materials to yardage. They work with weavers sourcing unique fabrics and custom designed colour combinations. The saree’s are mostly in dupian silk and Benarasi tussar, while the unstitched suit fabrics and yardage are in tissues, silks, jutes, Chanderis and cottons with Benarasi motives. Another favourite at their studio is their collection of Gota patti fabrics and saree’s. Besides their love for traditional weaves, Padmini and Kavya are also known for their designs on saree’s – melodramatic colour combinations and the pairing of the most unusual fabrics to create the perfect outfit. Padmini is a connoisseur where woven fabrics are concerned; her knowledge and work with Benarasi weavers have created some exquisite weaves on saree’s and dress materials. Kavya on the other hand likes to have fun with traditional fabrics – shirt blouses, crop tops, cowl pants – all with zardozi & chikankari hand embroidery. Known mostly in the city for their wedding couture and ethnic ensembles, these designers also specialize in hand-embroidery. Their ‘karigars’ come from different parts of India and work on a variety of embroidery styles – zardozi, aari, chikankari, parsi-gara and much more. They also create designs that combine these different kinds of embroidery so a custom designed outfit could have a combination of zardozi and chikankari work; thus also allowing a client to even be a part of the embroidery on their outfit as it progresses. Creating an outfit with these designers is a great experience; they both bring something different to the table. Padmini brings with her years of experience and an exquisite eye for detail. Her colours and designs are classics and her command over styling is the most flattering for a client. Kavya brings a little quirk into an outfit, mixing unusual patterns into ethnic ensembles. In short, this mother-daughter duo gives you the complete shopping experience and design the perfect outfit for you!
