To the 𝘴𝘱π˜ͺ𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴, π˜₯𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘸𝘦𝘒𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘧π˜ͺ𝘯π˜ͺ𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴, and every artisan who forms the backbone of Anuprerna,

Five years is often spoken about as a milestone. But for us, it is a reflection of your work, your discipline, and your commitment to your craft.

Every thread you spin, every fabric you weave, every process you carry forward with care… it all adds up to something far beyond production. It builds 𝘭π˜ͺ𝘷𝘦𝘭π˜ͺ𝘩𝘰𝘰π˜₯𝘴, 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘳π˜ͺ𝘡𝘒𝘨𝘦, and creates a system that stands on π˜₯π˜ͺ𝘨𝘯π˜ͺ𝘡𝘺 𝘒𝘯π˜₯ 𝘡𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘡.

What makes this journey real is not scale or numbers. It is the 𝘀𝘰𝘯𝘴π˜ͺ𝘴𝘡𝘦𝘯𝘀𝘺 with which you show up. The 𝘱𝘒𝘡π˜ͺ𝘦𝘯𝘀𝘦 in your process. The 𝘱𝘳π˜ͺπ˜₯𝘦 in your work. And the strength with which you continue, even when conditions are not always easy.

Anuprerna exists because of you. Not around you.

Thank you for your 𝘴𝘬π˜ͺ𝘭𝘭, 𝘳𝘦𝘴π˜ͺ𝘭π˜ͺ𝘦𝘯𝘀𝘦, 𝘒𝘯π˜₯ 𝘲𝘢π˜ͺ𝘦𝘡 𝘦𝘹𝘀𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘀𝘦 you bring into every piece we create together.

Hands shape it.
Skill refines it.
Care completes it.

A finished garment doesn’t start on a hanger.
It starts with meters of fabric, hours of cutting and stitching, and dozens of small decisions that shape the final fit.
That’s the real process behind every piece.

In this episode, our Founder, Amit Singha, an IIM-Calicut grad shares his journey of leaving the corporate world to preserve his father’s artisanal legacy in Bengal.

Watch the full episode here: https://youtu.be/v8fQrakcLBg?si=1HIbIjiazsnE8Rai

After working in M&A at Infosys & Mphasis, Amit realized that centuries-old crafts and the artisans behind them were slowly disappearing. So he made a bold decision: to digitize and scale what his father had built, taking traditional Bengali textiles to a global audience.

Today, Anuprena operates with 25+ full-time employees, partners with hundreds of artisans, and ships sustainable, handcrafted pieces across continents.

In this candid conversation, we explore:
- Why he walked away from a lucrative banking career
- The early struggles of reviving a dying craft
- How he scaled from zero to hundreds of artisans
- The philosophy behind slow fashion and sustainability
- The evolution of Anuprena since 1983

This is a different kind of founder story-one about intentionality, patience, and building something that matters.

Punjab’s Phulkari, literally meaning β€œflower work,” is a traditional embroidery art that dates back centuries. Hand embroidered by women across rural Punjab, Phulkari is known for its vibrant geometric and floral motifs stitched with silk floss called pat on coarse cotton fabric known as khaddar. What makes it special is that the design often appears fuller and more detailed on the reverse side, reflecting the artisan’s precision and patience. Beyond its beauty, Phulkari has always carried cultural meaning. Once stitched for weddings, births, and milestones, each piece told a personal story through color and pattern. Today, Phulkari continues to bloom as a symbol of Punjab’s heritage, resilience, and handcrafted legacy.

Lucknow Chikankari is one of India’s most delicate and time-honored embroidery traditions, known for its airy elegance and intricate handwork. Originating in the city of Lucknow, this craft uses fine stitches like phanda, keel, and shadow work to create floral and paisley motifs that almost look woven from light itself. Each piece can take weeks to complete, as artisans carefully hand-embroider on muslin, georgette, or cotton to achieve that signature soft, textured finish. What makes Chikankari truly captivating is its quiet sophistication - an art form that transforms simple fabric into heirloom-worthy beauty through patience, skill, and centuries of cultural heritage.

πŸ₯»We do not make Banarasi. We study it.

At sunrise in Varanasi we sat beside a handloom and watched zari weaving catch the first light. The ustad flipped the cloth to teach us the tell. Clean floats on the reverse for Kadhua and Kadwa. Real zari, not plastic sparkle.

This is the textile heritage of Varanasi, the reason Banarasi brocade is more than a trend and why Indian textiles still set global standards.

Field notes for anyone exploring the weaves of India or planning heirloom pieces.

If you are considering a Banarasi silk saree for weddings, a bridal lehenga fabric, sherwani fabric, or a designer dupatta in Varanasi silk, ask for the weave type, yarn count, and zari composition.

Compare Katan silk for structure, georgette Banarasi for flow, and kora organza for airy layers. Look for handloom Varanasi finishing, not power-loom shortcuts. Save this as your fabric guide before you shop.

Understanding authentic Banarasi brocade helps us keep our own craft honest and keeps respect where it belongs, with the artisans. Learning at the loom makes every decision in our studio sharper.

Save this post if you are researching Banarasi brocade fabric. Share it with a friend who loves Indian textiles. Tell us which motif you would hunt for first in Varanasi silk. Tanchoi, Jangla, Butidar, Minakari, or Shikargah.
