Embroidery is the art of forming beautiful intricate designs and motifs on fabrics with different colored threads. One of the most famous forms of embroidery is the Punjabi embroidery. The traditional embroidery of Punjab is known as Phulkari. The name itself means growing of flowers. Thus, the motifs and patterns of Phulkari essentially contain floral designs and motifs. Bright color combinations

are used for the floral patterns and they can be seen in almost all traditional attire. Phulkari, is an embroidery technique from Punjab (India) and literally means flower working. Thus, the motifs and patterns of Phulkari essentially contain floral designs....in bright colours.. According to Punjabi wedding customs, the bride is supposed to walk to the mandap under a phulkari woven dupatta which would be held over her head by her brothers. Traditionally a Phulkari is woven by close family members of the bride. The embroidery is done on the wrong side of the cloth, and the pattern is controlled by counting of the thread. The craft reflects the rich and colourful culture of the region. Since Phulkari Dupattas are full with embroidery, the idea is to go heavy on dupatta and keep your suit simple. Being a traditional form of art, the style is neither easily available and is relatively on the expensive side.Even though the textile industry today, is imitating this art with the help of machines, phulkari work has almost disappeared in its original form, due to the partition of India and Pakistan. The word phulkari usually indicates the shawl that was loomed and embroidered to cover women's heads or to be displayed in a gurudwara (Sikh temple). Phulkari duppatas or stoles look absolutely stunning on plain kurtas. Celebrated designers have been making models walk the ramp wearing stoles that have finer and delicate motifs. There are many celebrities in indian film industry who have been captured by photographers wearing the Phulkari designs. Bollywood stars have been seen wearing shawls inspired by the Phulkari designs. Whatever one can define fashion trend as, a Phulkari design is simply unbeatable and timeless.talking trends
