Around 1898 His Highnesss Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner state invited and offered permanent ownership and settlement to Jaagerdars, Numberdars and Zaildars of the neighbouring malwa region in Punjab,in order to make desert state fit for agriculture and further development of the state and its people. Sardar Kehar Singh (Numberdar village palainwala in muktsar district) along with hi

s sons Sardar Chanan singh and Sardar Sajjan singh was allotted 5000 hectares,to make it fit for agriculture,which took them more than 20yrs with no modern technology to remove vast deserts and unearth black fertile soil,fit for farming and hence they called the vast piece of black soil "Kaalimaer " (which is a punjabi word meaning black soil) and till date the name remains. A lot of things over the centuries have found root in the rich, fertile black soil of the designer's homeland, much like this contemporary, earthy ethnic-wear collection. Literally translated as black (kaali) soil (maer), Kapila Khapra started this label to cater to tastes that quite simply, match hers, ours, yours and theirs.
