The "SAMBALPURI" fabrics are mostly made in cotton and the uniqueness of the fabric lies in the smooth curves of their motifs owing to the high skill of the bhulia weavers of the region. The variety of motifs are very diverse ranging from animal motifs like elephant, deer, ducks and lion to floral motifs, the Konark wheel, and the kumbha or temple motif.
Team, Neeli Titlee starts off with an exciting inspiration followed by a few sketches and layouts that are sent to the weavers. Once they are ready with the tie-dyed yarns and the warping of the loom, the designer and the weaver sit together on the loom to shape up new samples. This cohesive collaboration between the designer and the craftsman becomes extremely important for creating contemporary designs.
