The new type of video carousels going viral
And how to make them...
The 'Moving Picture' Carousel
This sort of carousel is blowing up right now, and it's a brilliant one to try, whatever your niche!
The burst of motion helps stop the scroll and pushes up dwell time, which makes the algorithm love them.
But there are a few things you need to know to make them perform well...
What videos to use
As a guide, your videos should be around 3-6 seconds long so they repeat as someone reads the words.
The moving photo effect is achieved by some parts of the video being completely still and one or more elements moving.
To do this, you'll need a still camera, so use a tripod, prop your phone up or get someone to help with a steady hand!
Can you use any video?
Technically yes, but I think they work really well where the video 'loops' like this, which is achieved by the moving element starting and finishing in the same position.m
And remember, the very first frame of the first video will appear on your grid and explore page, so make sure that frame is interesting!
Upload your videos into Canva
Instagram currently won't let you add text onto videos in the carousel editor, so you'll need to use our friend Canva!
Use the 4x5 Instagram post template, and pop your videos over a few frames with text over the top like this.
A few big tips to make them work well
Use the trim feature in Canva to clip out the section of the video you like.
Not every frame needs to be video; you can mix up some static frames, too!
Your message is still the most important thing.
You can use this moving picture format for storytelling, to show off what you do or teach something.
Using video is going to amplify the words, not replace them, so make sure you still have:
1. A hook at the start
2. A story, lesson or something for people to take away
3. Finish with a CTA that drives engagement and action.
