‘Odisha Ikat’ also known as “Bandha of Odisha”, is a resist dyeing technique. Since 2007, the “Bandha of Odisha” has been geographically identified. It is a process of tie-dying the wrap and weft threads, so that designs on the loom prior to weaving can be created. Because of its design process, it has been called “poetry on loom”.

Adi Shakti is an ode to the primordial feminine force—the eternal source of creation, strength, and grace. Woven in lustrous Berhampuri Pata silk, this saree features the timeless Naba Kothi layout, where nine meticulously balanced panels symbolize harmony, abundance, and completeness.

Delicate ikat motifs, woven with remarkable precision, lend the saree a quiet sophistication, celebrating Odisha's rich weaving heritage through understated elegance. Ashadhi Ekadashi marks one of the most revered occasions in the Bhakti tradition, commemorating the unwavering devotion of millions of pilgrims who journey to Pandharpur in the sacred Wari. At its heart stand Lord Vitthala (Vithoba) and Rukhumai (Rukmini)—the divine couple embodying devotion, compassion, and the eternal bond between the Divine and His devotees. 

A signature of Odisha's weaving legacy, this handwoven Tussar silk saree is distinguished by its Panch Phulia border, where five meticulously woven tortoise motifs gracefully frame the drape. In Indian tradition, the tortoise symbolizes stability, endurance, and prosperity, drawing inspiration from Kurma, the second incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Woven on the natural golden sheen of Tussar silk, the border reflects the timeless excellence of Odisha's master weavers.

The pallu is a devotional tribute to Lord Vitthala, adorned with sacred motifs that celebrate the spirit of Bhakti. The flute represents the divine melody of Lord Krishna, calling every soul towards love, compassion, and devotion. The Vaishnava Tilak, a revered symbol of the Vaishnava tradition, signifies surrender to the Divine, purity of thought, and unwavering faith. Lord Vitthala with his divine consort Rakhumai is depicted standing upon a brick (Vit) with both hands resting firmly on His waist—a distinctive posture that symbolizes His eternal patience as He awaits His devotees. This iconic stance originates from the legend of the devoted Pundalik, whose unwavering service to his parents inspired the Lord to wait upon a brick until He could receive Him. 

 Together, these sacred elements transform the saree into more than a handloom creation—they weave a story of spirituality, heritage, and timeless craftsmanship.

The yarns are naturally dyed using plants and earth extracts. Kotpad weaves received the first Geographical Identification (GI) tagged product from Odisha in 2005.
