We support the weavers of India.

Today we speak about Tamil Nadu, known for its Silk Sarees amongst many other things.

Tamil Nadu is the eleventh largest state in India by area, sixth-most populous state according to the Human Development Index in 2011 and is the second - largest state economy in India after Maharashtra.  Its official language is Tamil, which is one of the longest surviving classical language in the World.  Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu has all segments of Tourist attractions which invite tourists.  It has cerulean mountains, silver waterfalls, verdant vegetation, sandy beaches, mammoth monuments, timeless temples, fabulous wildlife, scintillating sculptures and reverberating rural life.  It has picturesque spots, continuing heritage, cultural confluence and aesthetic magnificence.

What is a Toran???

A toran is the entrance decoration, often a wall hanging, that many Hindu homes have at their entrance. Used traditionally in many a culture, these are believed to attract positivity and sprain away negative vibes as well as emotions. Torans can be a beautiful makeover for doors.

They can be made of fabrics or metals which are usually made to resemble mango leaves. They also have other decorative features depending on the region.

Toran Significance:

Torans are said to welcome  Lakshni, the Goddess of Wealth, to the home. Torans are especially common during Diwali.

Torans are also the first welcome to a guest into a house.

A little about Banjara's...

Banjara
The Banjara are a class of usually ascribed as nomadic people from the Indian state of Rajasthan, North-West Gujarat, and Western Madhya Pradesh and Eastern Sindh province of pre-independence Pakistan.

Their customs, language and dress indicate they originated from Rajasthan. They live in settlements called thandas. They lived in zupada (hut). Now many of them live in cities. They have a unique culture and dance form. On many occasions they gather, sing and dance.

Women are known to wear colorful and beautiful costumes like phetiya (as ghagra) and kanchalli (as top) and have tattoos on their hands. The dress is considered fancy and attractive by Western cultures. They use mirror chips and often coins to decorate it. Women put on thick bangles on their arms (patli). Their ornaments are made up of silver rings, coins, chain and hair pleats are tied together at the end by chotla.

Men wear Dhoti and Kurta (short with many folds). These clothes were designed specially for the protection from harsh climate in deserts and to distinguish them from others.
